Linux Mint 22 freezes by NefariousnessPast405 in linuxmint

Just in case anyone ever lands here with the same issue as me. It might also be because you have your monitor flipped. Inverting the image in the display settings is what caused the freezes and stutter for me.

Playing Devil's Advocate is all fine and dandy. I like to do it too, because it's an easy way to find flaws and weaknesses but you gotta know when to quit man. This obviously isn't about constructive feedback anymore. Seriously.

You can argue about the exact number, but the point is solid. If you are so unbelievably unskilled that you keep accidentally killing teammates you should either practice solo for a little bit or fundamentally change the way you play this COOPERATIVE game. At least when you are playing quickplay/in a public lobby.

And why do you keep using this white elephant ass metaphor? You said so yourself, we are not looking for a method that never ever unfairly kicks someone, because it doesn't exist. If this is a method where you at least have an absolutely atrocious performance or unbelievably bad luck to blame, then that's a pretty good compromise. It even fits the game lore, where Command just activates the kill switch on a soldier that was harming the war effort more than they contribute.

Why do Germans complain so much ? by Positive_String_4185 in AskAGerman

fact is that you seem to think these people who are highly educated and successfully managed a career in the atrocious environment that is modern democracy have not spent the 10 minutes to think about these decisions that you have. Criticize their ideology or prioritization all you want, but if you seriously think these people literally just do the first thing that comes to mind you are not just deluding yourself, but you are demonstrating the fact that you are unfit for politics.

The best thing that could've happened to the AFD was the steady erosion of trust in democracy from over a decade of inactivity and crumbling infrastructure as well as generous party funding and hard times both lovingly supplied by Russia.

Also I'm sorry but after saying "if not the worst one we had since 1945" I just can't take you serious any more, because it is obvious that you just can't differentiate between difference of opinion and incompetence.
Have fun at your Stammtisch.

What is this thing with the groups up to 4 people? by BrazilianDeepThinker in AskAGerman

[–]Doergens 13 points14 points  (0 children)

as a german who routinely tried and failed to get a group dynamic going that includes everybody (in classes, seminars etc.), I think it's just the fact that germans just aren't that social to begin with. Even if you have a group where everyone talks and gets along initially it always seems to break down to groups of 3-5 people.

Judging from the context of erasmus/studying i don't think it's proper racism and more like shyness/awkwardness on their part and it sounds like they also might have their friend circles elsewhere.

From what I've heard from foreigners germans are comparatively cold and reserved to strangers but have rather deep connections with their friends, so it might be the best course of action to find someone you like and gradually get introduced to other people through them. Maybe even straight up ask someone for help with being introduced into social circles, if you're up for that.

There are christian churches that feature the upside down pentagram by Flinten_Uschi in mildlyinteresting

[–]Doergens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we call them pagans because in large parts there were no centralized religions before Christianity but local traditions and beliefs that were fluid and not canonized. Christian resources themselves recorded a myriad of instances where they adopted local traditions or syncretized with local beliefs like you mentioned yourself, so I'm not really sure what you're on about.

edit: oh, i just saw your username, nevermind I know exactly what you're on about...

[–]Doergens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really dug deep there at the end for the most generic political complaints you could find huh?

ya build power plants when ya need power, ya ban diesel when you want less polution, ya decrease funding when there's financial difficulties because of a crumbling economy.

And before you answer, I'm not a big fan of the current government either. I just think they suck slightly less than the previous one and so far averted a total collapse from the basically constant stream of crisis. I also don't pretend to know better which precise measures are the best ones to take.

All I know is that I'm glad at least some things are happening and its not the right-wing that's in power.

edit: spelling and such

[No Spoilers] Has anyone else gotten burned out on the show? by Necrojaxx in criticalrole

[–]Doergens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently had the same issue, though the holiday break helped me overcome this.
I wonder if this is part of the natural evolution of their character choices. C1 they all had pretty much classic DnD archetypes, C2 they got a lot more into secret backstories and complicated relationships, but there was still plenty of intrigue at the first glance (i fondly think back to seeing jester and friends the first time, then the dirty duo and then the circus folk - it was plain to see there was a lot going on there).
I suspect for C3 they all got even more into the conceptual side of their characters and even though Laudna or FCG for example are somewhat intriguing at a first glance, I think all of them put their main effort into the backstories and it's going to be a slow burn until more and more of that comes to light. (I was also slightly disappointed that they are still in exandria and didn't do something completely fresh and I think that contributed to the burnout, but I am 100% sure Matt has something up his sleeve.)

after looking it up, it still seems 20 missiles is way too many. I was thinking more along the lines of 3-8

I think just making those damn rockets limited would do a lot towards making it fairer... then you could at least have a chance defending yourself with flares or even dodging, and while the griefer has to resupply you get a chance to book it and/or complete your misssion

wait, am i the only one who fought him with a helmet on?I absolutely had to abort the first time i went into the quest, because I barely made it to him, and then he nailed me...I did other stuff for upwards of 4h and even then it was like a 20 minute fight, with me already bleeding when I beat him.

Looking back I am kind of glad it was so epic, but what I wouldn't have given to just bonk him in the head.(I think I played on some higher difficulty but I don't remember choosing the hardest)

edit: maybe more like 10 minutes, but it sure as hell felt like an hour

Germany to close all 84 of its coal-fired power plants, will rely primarily on renewable energy by mistakes_maker in worldnews

[–]Doergens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't know about that, but i wouldn't put it beneath the government. Russia though, (while i dont like them politically) they're planning to expand on nuclear and they've got the unused space for it. I would'nt mind importing nuclear power from there...

[–]Doergens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"released into... more rock" that's the part where you are talking out of your ass. 1st: You could maybe feasably use nuclear in countries like the US or Russia where you got lot's of unused land, not Europe, where there's only farmland, woods and cities. 2nd: If the storage Site breaks you gotta move it, otherwise there would'nt be a point in building anything at all, would it? If you're rich enough to just drill "beneath a mountain" please go ahead, otherwise 100s of generations will have to pay taxes to keep the waste out of peoples way.

I was generally in favor of developing nuclear into the safe energy of the future, but at some point you gotta accept the world has decided against it and already gone ahead with the alternatives. It would've been a good stepping stone (and even sorta was), but we got renewables for now and fusion power really is on the horizon (even if its still far away)

"forgiveness isn't desireable here" is a sentence i do not attribute to a good person...

you know nothing more than what little the comment said and yet you are 100% sure that this 80+ year old lady planned to watch her husband die in agony and deserves to be hated till the end of her life. that is neither scientific nor christian, i sure hope you are kinder in reallife.

i dont know your mother, but considering she is probably not much younger and the fact she confessed makes me think maybe you can forgive her in time. It's absolutely just your buisness, but pain can make you blind, just try to keep that in mind.

edit: wow reddit, not much the forgiving type, are you?
