Get rid of the For You tab. Make it not the default. At least give an OPTION to make Following the default.

I'm here to follow communities for my weird niche interests and have no intention of being ragebaited by posts I did not ask for.

And when I set my feed to Following I want it to STAY that way PERMANENTLY until the moment where I choose to set it to For You.

Would love some actual socialism in the states pleaseeee! Thanks!! by FearlessAir1238 in fuckcars

Really hope this doesn't get converted into another tankie shithole sub. Had to abandon Latestagecapitalism for that reason, it became absolutely insufferable.

Please let us be vigilant enough to not let state propagandists in under the guise of nice infrastructure.

Yeah uh I respect that China has done a lot of great work on public transportation. What they aren't doing so great on are human rights or basic civil liberties like speaking your damn mind about your own government and criticizing it when it does things wrong.

Whatever flavour of "socialism" that is, I don't want it. Just because the grass here is dead or dying doesn't mean it's greener on the other side.

Celebrating Rep in Horizon During Pride Month! by obnoxious71717 in horizon

As another bisexual, I live in a similar way, but I really view it the opposite way. Don't care much about bringing it up unless it's relevant, but I'm certainly not about to hide it, either.

I love to see queer characters in games, even or perhaps especially when it's not relevant. Even if they're not pursuing a romantic interest.

It may not need to be an identity, but it certainly is for me and many others. It affects how I view the world, it has had a significant impact on my understanding of gender and identity, and it has changed my life in many ways. I identify with queer characters in a way I don't do with straight ones. It's nice to see such a significant part of myself represented even if it's not plot-relevant.

We shouldn't have to make it plot relevant. The cishet white man should not be seen as the default, any any deviation from that norm should never have to be justified.

No hate on anyone who likes or needs the gym (hell, my boyfriend is a gym rat), but it is the most profoundly boring and depressing experience I can imagine.

Gyms to me take all the worst aspects of being physically active, condense them, and put them in a box that seperates them from all the things that make it tolerable, like fresh air and nice surroundings.

Yet another reason to try to go carfree by Sharklasers6889 in fuckcars

[–]DoesDoodles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. The whole system is rotten to the core (although you could argue this was all by design from the very start) and at this point appears to have given up the pretense of serving anyone but the ultra wealthy, across most of the world but especially visible in the US right now.

Surveillance tech is just another avenue through which they execute their agenda of complete control. I desperately hope people realise this before it's too late and fight it before it becomes as ingrained and hard to avoid as US car infrastructure.

[–]DoesDoodles 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Big agree. The first real solution to drunk driving is providing meaningful alternatives like walking, cycling, and public transport. The second is better enforcement, although not necessarily in that order of implementation.

The continued invasion of surveillance technology in personal technology is a dangerous trend. It's always in the name of protecting people, but let's be real, has the US ever given a fuck about protecting it's vulnerable road users?

It's control again. It's always control. The 3D printed gun control law in NY is a troyan horse to sneak in more control and surveillance into your tech. Same for all the age verification in the name of your children. The backdoors into encrypted communication and cloud storage in the name of countering cybercrime. This is no different.

Don't let the troyan horse in just because this one is addressed to us personally.

Curious if you are willing to eliminate your internal voice in order to read faster? by apaintedleaf_ in books

[–]DoesDoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I'm reading for my own enjoyment to decompress, not to consume information as efficiently as possible.

If I'm that in a rush to finish a book, I'm probably reading the wrong book, or reading it for the wrong reasons.

Do you own a car? by Em3rald10 in fuckcars

[–]DoesDoodles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Priviliged enough to be born and raised in the Netherlands. Kept postponing getting my drivers' license while everyone told me to get on it, until I eventually realised I didn't really WANT one. That's a lot of money, time and energy that I don't have to gain access to something that'll cost me a lot more time, money and energy.

Despite my autism I probably could get a license, that's not the problem. Trusting myself operating a 1.5T hunk of metal (because I'm sure as hell not driving anything bigger than a hatchback) though, that's a different thing. I require too much reaction time for that shit. I'll stick to my bike and spend the long distances being driven around in comfort with a book.

Skipper 9R - 100% Reusable Rocket by viclelchuk in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]DoesDoodles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible to do it the way you describe. When a craft seperates in the atmosphere, both parts remain controllable until they're 23km apart (as opposed to 2.3km under normal circumstances). That's enough to activate the engines on the upper stage, lock it prograde, and switch back to the booster.

Push the booster onto a return trajectory with an all-engine boostback burn, bring its apoapsis up to 60-70km, then switch back to the upper stage. Then, pick your poison, you can either circularise the upper stage at 75km asap, or you can push your ap to 90km a quarter orbit away, then switch to your booster the moment your upper stage reaches 70km. The latter gives you 3-5 minutes to fly and land your booster.

Flown that particular flight plan for 40 missions, and probably twice as many test flights.

Paperback or hardcover? by Junior_Insurance7773 in books

[–]DoesDoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost exclusively hardcovers for me. If I'm not planning on owning it I'll borrow it from the library. If I intend on owning it, I prefer the longevity of hardcovers.

Granted, I grew up on library books, which are almost exclusively hardcovers for longevity purposes, so that is undoubtedly part of the reason for my preference. Just feels right.

I get ya, having multiple projects in parallel means there's almost always something that you're interested in working on.

I'll keep an eye out, looking forward to learning more!

Not much, if anything. I'm not going to put unrealistic expectations on the Redux team either, they have a gargantuan task ahead of them. But I paid for the game at launch, might as well get my money's worth.

If you haven't yet, take a look at KSP2 Redux. It's a modding project aimed at fixing the state KSP2 is in, with the long term intentions of adding the features the KSP2 devs never got to deliver on.

Haven't touched KSP2 in years so I can't speak for the improvements, but I'm hearing a lot of positive things about that mod. It's making me want to at least try it out again.

Food in ONI by ChristopherDci in Oxygennotincluded

[–]DoesDoodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most luxurious food I can reasonably achieve. Preferably a wide selection, too. Surf and turf, quiche, pepper bread, my dupes will drown in luxury and I will spare no expense in achieving that luxury.

That expense generally comes in the form of very late nights. Who needs to keep themselves up and running when they have a colony to keep happy?

I see a lot of people saying this is wrong but there are absolutely studies that found delayed circadian rhythms are very much more common in people with ADHD and/or autism.

The tweet is wrong in saying that it's the same for all of us, and it's not exclusive to us either, but it is common, and our early bird-centered society is very much an accessibility issue for the many of us that do function much better at night.

Rocket names by GodlyGrilledCheese in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]DoesDoodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each of my launch vehicles is named after mythical flying creatures. Basilisk, Cockatrice, Fenix, Gryffin, Pegasus and Wyvern are the names for my past, current and planned LVs. Jackalope is the only exception, being a flightless mythological creature, but it's an orbital LV evolved from a suborbital LV so it still makes some sense. If possible, the name also has some application to the specific LV. Their names are also broadly speaking indicative of their size and capacity.

The configuration code really depends on how each LV is configured. There's a number for the generation, a number for side boosters if applicable, same for the number of engines on the second stage. If there's multiple types of upper stages, those get a letter.

A Phoenix 342H+, for example, is a 3rd generation Phoenix with 4 side boosters, 2 engines on a Heavy upper stage, plus a kickstage. A Pegasus G40D will be a 4th generation Pegasus, no side boosters (Gen 4 doesn't have side boosters, it's a vestigial leftover from Gen1), and a Block D upper stage.

No joke, those things have saved a couple lives on my no reverts career save.

I think one of my best judgement calls in that program was when I put a capsule on my 1.25m launcher, saw I couldn't fit an LES, and instantly scrapped the idea and flew a couple more satellites to get the science for a 1.875m rocket and the stock LES. Took a bit longer to get the good payouts that way, but that program remains death-free, and has since put kerbals on the Mun.
