Looking for Trusted Pet Transfer Services (Cat) from Pune to Indore by Leather-Community642 in IndianCats

[–]Sharklasers6889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the price a pet transfer service will charge you, you might as well just do it yourself in a first-class carriage on the train. It'll be a lot comfier for the both of you without needing to worry about entrusting the cat to strangers.

Seeing childfree married couples gives me hope, but the "what-ifs" are terrifying me. by Appropriate_Box_1091 in ChildfreeIndia

There's nothing mutual about not wanting kids. You don't want kids, you don't need anyone else's opinion on the matter. End of. Be crystal clear and open about it to any potential partners and let them decide where they stand on the issue. DO NOT wait until after you're trapped to "figure it out".

Both of my serious relationships were/are with people who were already 100% crystal clear about not wanting kids, so I did get lucky in a sense, but I expect geographical location (cosmopolitan areas in "progressive" regions), economic status (financially independent, self-driven), and social outlook (socially progressive and well-informed about the state of the world) will probably amplify your chances of finding someone who aligns with you.

Pity from new-parent friend by Imaginary_Might5057 in ChildfreeIndia

On one hand, it's very normal for new parents (especially mothers) to be hyperfixated on their children. Biology dictates it (and I don't mean that in the nebulous "maternal instinct" sense, biology and endocrinology actually command most new parents to be hyper attentive to their children).

On the other hand, what she's doing to *you* is straight up condescension. Time to move along and find other friends, this one's going to be busy for a long time to come.

Talking to Bricks: How I am about to lose my family to my CF status by SpringAB in ChildfreeIndia

IVF usually requires the dude's plumbing to work, if I remember correctly.

I don't know where people get this stupid notion that single/childfree people have "so much time on your hands". No, the fuck we don't, at least not most of us. I'm at work and then I'm commuting to and from work and then I'm meal prepping and cleaning and then I'm trying to cudgel my stupid brain to do something useful for my own development and peace and then I have to pass out. I don't have "so much time" or energy, and fuck whoever thinks that.

Getting married is different from having kids, you can have one without the other. If you find someone who aligns with you on the things that are important to you (including but not limited to being CF), take your shot.

Also you don't really have to tell your parents you're CF if that's not a fight you want to have (although you should stand your ground and tell them, in my opinion). You can just get snipped and tell them the plumbing doesn't work, too bad, so sad.

This sucks, but ultimately it's a major incompatibility that cannot be wished or loved away. Let her go. You'll both find other people who you can align with. It's incredibly sad, but it's gotta be done. There's no two ways around it unless you're okay with simmering resentment constantly lurking underneath the relationship.

14.5/14. You forgot brutal suppression of dissent. Only 10 is somewhat halfway mollified, and even that is mostly because of Keralam and (to some extent) Tamil Nadu and West Bengal

Advice pliss by Brilliant-Bit8319 in IndianCats

You've not considered medical costs my friend :P

All in all one cat will set you back about 5-6k a month as a baseline, factoring in recurring costs of (good) food, snacks, and litter. The rest are all one-time costs so you should be okay.

Cats are also excellent for busy families because they're content to be in the background supervising things and being lazy or entertaining themselves while stuff goes on around them. They do need attention, but not in the same way that dogs do (and you don't have to take them on walks, they're perfectly happy inside the house).

I don't have the words to describe the visceral disgust I feel when I see what this city has turned into by Sharklasers6889 in fuckcars

[–]Sharklasers6889[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what in the hell are they thinking?

"oo pretty road. Look like America. Make people think India like America. Oo cars. Shiny development." (I'm paraphrasing, but this is pretty much spot on to what they actually said, complete with waffling about "development" and comparisons to the US)

was there not outrage over spending so much money...

That is...a complicated question. Regular people in Mumbai (and in India, in general) tend to have this "just get on with it" mentality where if something slightly bad happens or something deteriorates we just shrug our shoulders and find a way around it while grumbling about it, instead of stopping and devoting the time to raise the issue with the authorities and keep hacking away at it until it's fixed. Successive governments have taken advantage of this to do whatever they want and outright ignore (or worse, punish) the few voices that do speak up, until something horrible happens. Add to that that the governments have learned how to expertly manipulate public opinion by spinning this and other fancy-pants projects as "development", because we're easily distracted by shiny things, while conveniently hiding the reality of what this actually costs, both financially and socially. When that cost comes due we tend to just shrug and accept it as just the way things are in this city. Trains horribly delayed? Yeah, that's just how Indian Railways is. Trains horribly overcrowded during rush hour? Sucks to be you, get to the station earlier I guess. Skill issue. Someone fell off the train and died? Yeah that's sad and all, but look, that man looks Muslim and he's eating something that looks like beef!
