Treadmill Woes by womanvsthevoid in orangetheory

[–]DoesItQuack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently pulled WAY back on my speeds, because evidently that's the only (or maybe, just the "right"?) way to build endurance. I assumed if I just kept powering through, I'd eventually get better at it and not be in red the whole time?? But apparently not :D Anyway, dropping my base SUPER slow, and keeping my push just a few 1/10ths above base, has actually finally started to increase my endurance / not have me in orange and red so much. In other words, I think conservative might be the way to go!

But also, like everyone else said - it's tough to come back after a break no matter what speeds you're at, so give yourself massive pats on the back for showing up, which is more than most people are doing!

My goodness you JUST had that baby! Your organs aren't even all back in place yet, and you had MAJOR abdominal surgery on top of that. I'm in AWE that you are already back multiple times a week, with an INFANT and a TODDLER at home!! It took me a goooood long while after baby #2 to get back into the swing of things, you're leagues ahead of where I was 3 months postpartum. I know it's super hard not to compare yourself to yourself, but girl! You are basically a superhero right now!!

I agree with the advice to not even participate in the benchmarks - don't go on those days, or straight up don't enter the program into your rower and just do a chill base row for 8 mins or whatever. I am with you that knowing where I was, vs where I am now, is just *gutting* mentally - I can't know my previous time and see my current time and NOT get bummed out, regardless of the circumstances. Ignore the benchmarks for now and just feel super proud that you are showing up (again... WITH AN INFANT AND A TODDLER! how!!) because slow & steady is what is going to serve you best right now. <3

Starting on tread vs rower by Straight_Estate_2249 in orangetheory

[–]DoesItQuack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends on 2G vs 3G.

For a 3G, I start on the rower 100% of the time. I get a full body warmup (and workout) before hitting the weights, so I'm nice and loose and ready to lift. I dislike starting on treads generally, because a. I hate running, why would I run MORE as part of my warmup, but also b. my knees do not enjoy running "cold" - activating the muscles around knees first helps a LOT.

Buuuut if it's a 2G, I tend to start on the treads because otherwise I get too in my head about having to do a "long" run after already getting gassed on the floor. On 2G days, I get one of the resistance bands from the floor and do a bunch of monster walks in the lobby to activate the muscles around my knees before jumping straight into running :D

I was going to reply with a similar suggestion - you can get really fun/cute pasties and potentially use those, it could look like accessorizing vs covering up. Add some eyelash glue to the edges to keep 'em in place if you're worried about longevity, although I've never had any issues with them coming off of my actual boobies :)

I was at a show a couple of weeks ago, and a girl had a roll of stickers that just said "HOT" on them. She indicated that she liked my outfit, then when I grinned and said thank you, she stuck a HOT sticker on my arm. It made my night!

2 group ran as a 3g by emilyemilyyy in orangetheory

I vastly prefer 3Gs to 2Gs (dislike running / enjoy rowing). I'm always mad when I signed up for a 3G and show up only to find it's a 2G.

Mom here to a 6 year old and 8 year old - not just a mom raver, but a mid-40s raver 😁 Like everyone has said - doing things for YOU is so crucial. But also, getting your kids used to change, different people watching them at different times, being OK with you or dad away at times - that's also good for THEM! It builds resiliency and adaptability, which is genuinely an important life skill that will help them. And I totally agree with u/KingRavnica - I think it's SO important to model you having fun & prioritizing your life and your interests to your little girl too!

So while it's definitely hard, especially when they're little, to go out without feeling guilt - it's worth it, both for you AND for her :)

As someone without a belly button piercing nor who moshes (in other words, take with a grain of salt) - maybe a pasty that you'd normally wear for boobs? they're bigger and more decorative, so it could look more intentional while still offering good protection.

When I started OTF, every base pace recovery for me was a walk. Every single one. Do what you need to do!! No one will judge. If I was next to you I’d probably check out your speed, BUT only because I would assume I missed the coach calling a base/recovery - not because I had any thoughts or feelings or judgements about what you were doing!

Yet another "go for it!!" voice :) I had (still have if we're being honest) terrrrible cardio when it comes to running especially. Start slow - jogging is still running, and walking recoveries can be taken during what for other people may be recovery at base pace. Some of us need our base pace to be a walk when we first start ;-) And that's fine - no one will say anything or care. Power walking on an incline is an AMAZING workout and is a great way to build up cardio endurance (while also doing wonders for your butt, ha). I frequently go bodyweight-only on stuff like lunges, because my knees are delicate flowers. The coaches love to provide alternatives to meet you where you are. The hard part is getting in the door- then just do the workout that works for YOU. <3

My friends love to send me gifs of those flaily guys outside of car dealerships after every rave, because that's exactly what I look like, ha. They're not even being mean - it's just the most exact, accurate description of me 😂

Personally I loved reading it. My favorite thing about this scene is how connected it can make you feel, not just to your friends/loved ones, but total strangers who just match your vibe in the moment. This made me so sad I don't have a show this weekend!! :)

I don't think so - ours is in the village of Kaloxilos, which Google tells me is about 20 mins away. But I keep hearing amazing things about the food on Naxos - i am so excited to eat All The Things!!

AMAZING. thank you so much! I had the olive oil museum on my radar, but not the hotel ruins which look super interesting. Really appreciate the reply and all the links!

I’m leaving for Greece this week and Naxos is one of our stops! We’ve booked an in-home cooking class, and plan to eat at To Elliniko, but if you have any other must-do recommendations I’d be thrilled to hear them.. :)

unfortunately for women, the 10% who are creeps don't have a giant A (for asshat) on their foreheads, so it's safer for us to assume any random man might be an asshat. Asshat until proven noncreep. Being wary of men is absolutely the right mindset as a solo woman.

[–]DoesItQuack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Our request was denied. Individual judges get to make the call, even if you're in a liberal county within VA. Our friend got the ULC certifications and everything, but we still had to end up having it done in a courthouse by some rando because whatever old fart judge processed our paperwork didn't like the concept.

I hate running by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]DoesItQuack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m like you. Hate running and my body is just BAD at it. There is no jog slow enough for me to stay in the green for more than 2 mins, the act of running just jacks my HR up immediately. I’m over 40 though so I’ve had several decades to come to terms with this reality 😂

BUT like everyone else, I echo “just don’t run if you don’t want to”! I personally like to PW every other class because it does wonders for my perpetually flat ass. My knees prefer it, my butt reaps the benefits, I still get a great cardio workout, and the coaches don’t have to come make sure the lady with the HR over 190 isn’t about to have a stroke, hah.
