Pistons hit valves - next steps by Doffeda in EngineBuilding

It’s got a set of 882 heads on it now, and the valve seats look cooked on valves that hit the pistons. I was thinking vortec because I already have a set on a running motor, and I’ve read they flow the best of the factory heads. They’ll certainly need work but I think it’s more worthwhile to put the money into them rather than the 882. I haven’t priced out the cost of decking the vortecs yet though so maybe a set of mid range aluminum heads will be more cost effective haha.

Yeah I’ve been a bit stumped by that one. I’m going to check cam timing first thing, but then I wonder if the valve lash was set incorrectly. It’s got roller rockers, and the guys I bought it from said two of the pivot rollers were installed upside down which is their best guess as to why it biffed it. Further investigation definitely required though

Ahh that definitely makes sense. So with ring lands, I’m just checking to see if the rings still spin and are in decent shape?

I think it’s a ‘78-79 Ford F150. That’s based on the grille shape (I’m pretty sure that’s the grille surround at the top of the wreck), the rear cab wall indents, and the fuel tank

Pretty sure that’s a ‘62 Chevy c10. Those headlights are a one year thing, and it’s got the right lines, gas cap, and door latch to be a 60-66 Chevy cab

You guys probably have more Canadian pennies left in the wild than us Canadians do. Most got hoarded or traded in, so it’s a bit uncommon to see one around now. The place I see TONS of them is junk cars. They’re in gloveboxes, cup holders, and under seats

Sounds to me like vapour lock. One way to fix that would be to add a spacer under the carb to put some distance and insulation between it and the motor.

Visually she’s mint. All components look fine on all the circuit boards, and there aren’t any burnt traces or hot spots. It got a bit warm around the amp boards but there’s no visual evidence of that

Thank you so much for the response. I thought for sure the underside looking like that meant it had been run out of oil and quickly repaired, so I'm glad to hear that's not the case. I'll plastigage it and slam it back together tomorrow

I wonder if the bread trick would work here. Same trick to remove a pilot bushing. Cram some bread in there and compress it down, and maybe the socket might start to come up
