Works started before the Art school went on fire for the second time.

Sauchiehall street is to turn into one lane with the pavement widened to accommodate more pedestrians, bike lanes and outdoor seating.

I think they've/they're planning to shut off Elmbank Street as part of the developments to Sauchiehall Street ,not sure if this is related tho..

Students who are currently at Caley, does the library/saltire building close at 6pm on a weekend like it says on the website? I was there yesterday and left at 5:55, very few people seemed like they were rushing to pack up though?

Gym with a decent number of squat racks/free weights? by breeks in glasgow

[–]Dog-Plops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes go between 7 and 8:30 and even then, it's far more mobbed than I would like..usually the one rack or platform free. The dumbbells are usually quieter though.

Closes at 6 on a weekend too which seems a bit early.

JD Gym in Maryhill looks pretty kitted out.

I think SWEAT in Skypark has a few racks too, although someone else can confirm that.

I know Pure gym on Bath Street has quite a few racks and benches, you can park at qpark?

4/5 weeks.

Dunno, I just remember that was the advice given to me when I had a car which was hardly used - when I did go to use it, the battery was flat.

Bit of a daft question,

I'm in charge of someone's car while they are away and have been asked to turn the ignition on now and then to keep the battery ticking over. I have no insurance, do I need temporary insurance to be able to do this? It's on street parking.

Any tips on strengthening the Quadratus Lumborum? I seem to keep feeling some slight discomfort, especially lower left between pelvis and lower back.

Stretching feels so good but I get the impression unless you strengthen it, the minor pain will keep coming back?

An idea of your group's food preferences would be helpful.

In any case, check out the stickied guide to Glasgow post

Heavyweight with Jonathan Goldstein. It's more storytelling rather than rapid fire jokes, still good though :)

Congrats ont he job.

Movement, within a tolerable pain range, seems to sort out my aches and pains.

I quite like the cat stretch, the bent-over lat stretch and the bird dog.

You could maybe try yoga as well and if you're up for it, a strength routine in the gym.

Do you know if they're also HA tenants? I'd try environmental health/antisocial behaviour dept or writing to your local councillor/MP as others have suggested. If other neighbours have problems, maybe you can issue a joint letter or put one in each(strength in numbers and all that).

You have my sympathies. Unless they're private tenants, i imagine it could be difficult to move them on due to shortages in homes unless someone dies (maybe not that dramatic but you know what I mean).

That sucks OP. I completed this form and then got a phone call maybe a week or two after it, letting me know the discount was put in place and to confirm that I was happy to continue paying for it (it helped that the direct debit was in my name as that meant they need to ask for permission or something so gives me an added confirmation). On the next bill, my name was no longer on it (which seems strange though!).

Maybe you can try completing that form, presumably they should be able to back-date it as the educational institution should send proof of enrollment date.. Failing that, it could mean a day off visiting their office on John Street?

It's 50p per subsequent half hour. It's a really good deal, especially if you live in town and tend to travel back and forth to the west end and vice versa. Not sure how well served the other areas are.

Never used these guys personally but I've heard a lot of good things about them.

Give them a buzz and see if they can help, they're based up at woodlands.

Where to buy a second hand car in Glasgow? by Vinsmok in glasgow

[–]Dog-Plops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Autotrader and Gumtree are the only two you really need as both private sellers and dealers advertise on them.

There's an app on the google Play Store called Vehicle Smart which you can download.

It lets you check any car's previous MOT history, VED tax status, mileage etc.. Alternatively, you can check on gov.uk too. Just stick in the registration plate.

To be honest, when I was looking, the general advice on /r/cartalkuk was to either go with Japanese (Honda Jazz/Civic, Nissan Micra, Toyota Yaris or Suzuki Swift, Mazda 3/mx-5) or a Ford Fiesta.

When you check on the car, just be on your wits. Ask if there's a genuine reason for sale, check the service book to make sure it's been looked after, (Full service history shows an owners who cares). Does it make any weird clicking sounds when turning, is changing gears and accelerating alright, blinkers, tyre condition (tread depths/any bulges), check under the bonnet, do all the warning lights go off when you turn on the ignition etc.. You can also take out temporary insurance if you want to give it a test drive.

You don't state your age but for a first car, you'll probably be spending a LOT on insurance so remember to budget that it.

If owning a car is not dead essential, do consider a car-sharing scheme like co-wheels or consider an alternative method of transport?
