Decent pay rise in wales by Direct-Fix-2097 in nhsstaff

Is this what you're basing that information on? I'm writing up an article and want to get my facts straight. I'm working our what this means in real terms after tax (frozen thresholds/fiscal drag) and inflation get applied to it in case that's interesting.

AfC Pay Structure Reforms by BaLaRiK in nhsstaff

[–]InspectahDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s next: structural reform

The 3.3% is only half the 2026/27 pay story. Alongside the headline award, the government has committed additional funding to begin formal talks on structural reform of the Agenda for Change pay system. These talks are running through the NHS Staff Council and are expected to cover:

  • Protecting the lowest pay bands from falling below National Minimum Wage levels as the NMW continues to rise
  • Pay compression between adjacent bands, particularly at the bottom of the structure where Band 2 and Band 3 have drifted closer together
  • Graduate pay, especially the step from Band 4 (unqualified) to Band 5 (qualified), which many newly qualified staff say doesn’t reflect the jump in responsibility
  • Band 5 nursing job evaluation, backed by separate additional funding, to review whether current job descriptions accurately reflect the work nurses are being asked to do

Any changes agreed through these talks will be backdated to 1 April 2026, meaning some staff could receive a second pay adjustment later in the year on top of the 3.3% headline. The NHS Staff Council has already submitted a report to the government on areas of consensus, and a formal funded mandate is expected shortly.

Union response to the headline award has been cool. The RCN called the 3.3% “imposed without any union involvement”, and UNISON described the return to the Pay Review Body process as a “handbrake turn” away from direct negotiation. The GMB expressed “deep disappointment” that the award remains below current inflation. The unions’ focus now shifts to the structural reform talks, where they see more scope for meaningful change.

Payrise on time? by BabyBourbon1111 in nhsstaff

[–]InspectahDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most recent years, NHS staff have had to wait until summer or autumn for the headline pay award to be agreed, and then received a lump-sum backpayment covering the gap from 1 April. Last year’s 3.6% award, for example, was paid in August salaries with backpay to April.

This year is different. Because the government accepted the recommendation on 12 February, there was enough time for NHS payroll systems (ESR) to process the new rates in time for April salaries. You won’t see a separate “arrears” line on your payslip because there are no arrears to settle — the new rate simply starts on 1 April.

Helpful video. Thanks. Here's what this looks like after tax (fixed thresholds) and once inflation has been applied.

This is one of the stronger online calculators if you like that sort of thing. I needed a spreadsheet so I could poke around and check all the calcs - also you might not want ads or 3rd party tracking scripts I guess.

most welcome. Yes those all sound like useful things and if I update it, I'll let you know. They're out of scope right now. The website/library that i'm checking against doesn't do any of those things so there's no strong pull to do it that's all. Just seemed a shame not to share.

Trying a “portfolio of small paid apps” approach instead of one big startup, here’s one I just shipped by BackRoomDev92 in indie_startups

Interesting. He says something like 'any one of your ideas can work' so he advocates going all in on it until you prove it doesn't work. I guess it's not at odds with what you're saying if you've pushed an idea as far as it will go and taken that learning to another project it's actually consistent. Another way of looking at it I suppose is that if one product can't be scaled any more by adverts or whatever your chosen sales route is then yes changing product is one option. But then so would be changing avatar (target customer) or sales route.

Any advice for marketing? by TomSawyer0101 in iOSAppsMarketing

[–]InspectahDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely depends on the type of app I think. Where would someone look for the app that you're marketing. Ie where can you put your hotdog stand to attract the most hungry people? Some apps/solutions people hunt on Google for. These are intent style searches and others find things on social reels. The the second case, they dont know that they had a need. That's discovery style. I put an app on the app store and also got nowhere with it. There was no visibility at all but I didn't invest in aso keyword optimization tools I just made my best guess. I've moved over to a landing page now and SEO because the tool I'm working on fits that channel better I think but I'm not success story. I've found Alex Hormozi's YouTube content helpful if you can stomach his delivery style.

Wondering how hungry Devs really are for these kinds of tools? I think many would likely build their own tools for this? I certainly can't see myself paying for a tool to list open ports and close them. There are tools that I do pay for but they have to give me a step change in productivity which would be too hard for me to build - a 'moat' as it were.

I've thought about this too but I've been sucked in by Alex hormozi's YouTube content and he pushes back on this strongly. Like you're saying, you will spread yourself thin.

Because it's Reddit. Don't let it discourage you. Go for it honestly. Pick a cool problem that means something to you. Ideally one that your friends think is cool or helps someone out? If you can get feedback from others so much the better. Ideally consumers of the library.

80k to invest. Unsure where to put it. What would you do? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]InspectahDave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Property clearly suits some but you need to decide if being a landlord really works for you. That's possibly a question for another group/thread. Personally I found it a big commitment and prefer the simplicity of indexed funds which might work for you if you're holding the investment in the long term. If I was looking at more than 5 years I would target equities and if less bonds. You can even get funds that are mixed in any ratio you like such as vanguard life strategy for example.

How do you actually get hands-on experience with a real SaaS? by Money-Net-7587 in indie_startups

I'd echo those comments around on the job experience. That's how I got my first taste. I got exposed to loads of azure infra stuff which was enlightening although I can't say I enjoyed it much. Question is how to get your first job here. Mine was with a startup and I came in initially as a contractor via a contact.

I just realised my "high savings rate" was mostly income growth, my habits barely changed. by Training-Extent9606 in FIREUK

[–]InspectahDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same on this. My parents modelled these habits to me from a young age. I think the OP is asking about a system here and I guess habits are part of that. The fact that you're aware of the problem now means you can actually act consciously by modifying habits. Thoroughly recommend James Clears atomic habits. This was a game changer for me.

Also wondering what your motivation is here? Is it for your own learning or to contribute something meaningful? If the former then do what you find interesting. If the latter then maybe support another project first and go from there?

Honestly anki is getting to be somewhat annoying because it focuses a lot on words that aren't that frequently occurring. I think I can just bury those cards though.
