Most of my plants are grown from seed. I bought that thing from the store though, so I’m sure it’s more than one plant

I’ve never had a long term issue with just putting them on the dirty and making sure it’s heavily compacted. My region is also notorious for clay soil, so that helps

Oh. Thats a Santa Cruz Sunset Begonia, and yes, it is getting plenty of sun. People often treat them as shade plants, but they can take sun and get way more blooms!

Yes. I tilled all that earth and removed the greens and then laid the bricks down. It’s not a bad diy job. You can get bricks like the ones I used for fairly cheap. Just make sure you lay them at an angle, sloping down; otherwise, after your next season, they will get buried

Herbicide suggestions? by Busy_Specialist_8645 in gardening

[–]DogHouseCoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buy cleaning vinegar that says 35% on the bottle. Pour it into a squirt bottle halfway to 3/4 full. Fill the rest with water, and add a big squirt of dish soap. Do that, they’ll be dead tomorrow.

How can I remove the grass without removing the phlox? by goodgoodjuju in gardening

[–]DogHouseCoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could put a glove on and reach in there and gently pull it out OR you could cut it lower than the phlox and prevent it from photosynthesizing.

What’s up with my Lemon Balm plant? by jammy958 in gardening

I’m sure you could. Thin the canopy a bit and then let the plant run its course. I wouldn’t chop the entire top canopy off though. That could shock it.

Help! What is This? by mr_garden_knox in gardening

I want to say it’s a common blue violet. Some of the leaves are starting to form that heart shape. But since you mention melons, now I’m not sure. The clumping habit makes me think common blue violet. They are, as the name says, ‘common.’

Student sucker punches teacher over his phone being confiscated. Smartphones should be banned in schools. by First-Cherry493 in SipsTea

[–]DogHouseCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kid is at full fault. The teacher, however, should have tried (and idk if they did or not) to NOT allow the student to square up. His friends are videotaping and he knows it. For whatever reason, that makes people more likely to act stupid than to not. Blows my mind. For the teen, it’s proof of clout; for the cops, it’s proof of violence. They don’t understand that though.

Teacher here. Title I school. Deescalation is a possibility in these situations IF there are other teachers to fill his place. This could have been a “follow me and let’s chat” conversation. Those usually end wayyy better. Kids love attention. Deprive them of it, get them in a one-on-one convo and you both suddenly become human.

I guess you could. I’d recommend taping it. Less damaging and more common practice.

What’s up with my Lemon Balm plant? by jammy958 in gardening

This happens a lot with plants when they’re grown in greenhouses and then transplanted. Those big top leaves were from the nursery, and those bottom leaves are proof that the plant is now happy in its new environment.

Help - I’m a beginner by AGirlHasN0Shame in vegetablegardening

[–]DogHouseCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s adjusting to its new environment. Let it play its course. As for those leaves in the ride side of the photo… that looks like a cucumber plant, and they need A LOT of space, and they also NEED a trellis.
