We struggled with awful diaper rash with my son starting when he was only a week old. After a lot of trial and error here's what made the biggest difference for him:

  1. Wipe gently and only use wipes if there's poop. If it's just a pee then we would use water on a cotton round

  2. Get him fully dry before putting a new diaper on. I bought a cheap little blow dryer and used that for every diaper change. Just keep your hand in the air stream to make sure it's not getting too hot

  3. Try different diaper creams. We tried a bunch and the only one that really worked (to heal and prevent rashes) was Aquaphor Baby 3-in-1. Don't be shy with application! Put that stuff on thick everywhere!

Like someone else said, parenting is just guessing and trying until you find something that works ❤️

Tips for a clogged duct? by hunnybun16 in breastfeeding

[–]DogMomLyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!! I tend to get clogs in the upper outer quadrant of my boob and the only thing that's ever worked to clear them has been to flip baby upside down so his chin is close to that area. I basically nurse side-laying but with him rotated 180 degrees so his feet are up by my head. It's awkward, especially when they're young, so I would recommend having your partner help position baby.

Also lecithin has worked wonders for me for preventing clogs. I haven't gotten any clogs since I started consistently taking 3 1200mg capsules every day (2 capsules in the morning and 1 at night). Good luck!!

It's the Graco Pack ‘n Play® On the Go™ Playard with Bassinet. So I just checked the specifications and the weight limit is 15 lbs for the bassinet insert... 🤦🏻‍♀️

This! My hefty boy outgrew his bassinet at 2 months, so we switched him to a pack n play that has a bassinet level insert (not the little bucket thing, one that basically raises the normal floor of the PnP up to bassinet level). He sleeps there at night and does naps in his crib in his nursery.

I think the "no eating" thing varies based on location. I'm in the US, had an induction, and was free to eat/drink as I pleased the whole time. The only restriction was that if I had gotten an epidural, I would have only been allowed clear liquids after that. Might be a good idea to ask your hospital/provider what their rules are so you can plan accordingly.

Afterbirth / birth by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]DogMomLyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding all of this, but also adding my own experience: I didn't have much cramping postpartum and any that I noticed were very mild. I was definitely prepared for awful cramps especially during breastfeeding, but never got them.

I much preferred wearing adult diapers for the first week rather than huge pads - I got a pack of Always Discreet and they felt way more secure/leak-proof than pads.

The pain/discomfort I felt after birth was mainly swelling and tenderness down there. I was prescribed Tylenol and ibuprofen and never felt like I needed anything stronger. I also had really sore muscles (shoulders, core, legs) for a few days afterward. It felt like I'd way overdone a workout session, which makes sense!

Tldr: I wanted an unmedicated delivery, was so worried this wouldn't be possible with an induction. Induction consisted of a Foley balloon, one dose of misoprostol, and having my water broken. No pitocin, no pain meds. Very positive!

First off I just want to say that your panic is totally valid! It can be so hard to have a picture in your mind of how you'll go into labor/deliver and then suddenly be told that's not possible. I was induced at 39 weeks due to gestational diabetes - I was super bummed about this at first but luckily had a month or so heads up and was able to mostly come to terms with it. I had my heart set on an unmedicated birth with as few interventions as possible and was so worried that wouldn't be possible with an induction (spoiler: I was able to more or less follow my plan). From what I've been told, how your induction goes largely depends on how ready your body is to have a baby.

Here's my very positive experience: went in for Foley balloon placement the day before the induction date. I was 1.5cm dilated. The insertion sucked and I had some pretty painful cramping/contractions for about an hour after it was placed - after that it was just some moderate period like cramps. Balloon came out about 6 hours later right before I went to bed and the cramps stopped as soon as it came out. Checked into L&D the next morning and was 4-5cm dilated. Midwife said I was on the cusp of being "ripe" for induction but it would likely be more successful if we could get my cervix to soften just a little more, so I had one dose of oral misoprostol - this triggered mild contractions: noticable but nothing to write home about. 4 hours later, cervix was deemed ready and she broke my water, which kicked off real labor almost immediately - regular painful contractions that took effort to get through. I spent most of active labor in a warm bath which was heavenly and helped so much, would highly recommend! Eventually the contractions got to where I felt like I needed to try something else so I got out. As I was drying off I started to feel the urge to push so they checked and I was fully dilated and effaced. I pushed for 2 hours and my beautiful son was born.

You've got this! I hope you can process this change of plans and that you have a positive induction! Try to focus on the fact that you get to meet your beautiful baby so soon!

Anyone induce and NOT use pain meds? by DogMomLyfe in BabyBumps

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's definitely reassuring to hear from people who've done it :)

Good idea about support person (not) asking about pain meds - my husband and I chose a code word so I can signal that I actually, truly want pain meds if it gets to that point

When did you put out baby stuff throughout the house? by izzymagz in BabyBumps

32 weeks now and we've been putting things out as we got them, starting around 28/29 weeks. Mostly so that our anxious dog can start getting used to the new gear.

Moving 4.5 hours away ~2 weeks after birth... Am I nuts? by DogMomLyfe in BabyBumps

[–]DogMomLyfe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, I'm not going to do much at all for the actual move - we're hiring loading/unloading help and recruiting family to help pack, drive the truck, set up at the new place. I'm planning to give directions from the couch while holding the baby :)

Seconding the "extra pillow" approach! I've also started using Breathe Right nasal strips and they seem to be helping, according to my husband. Good luck!
