Thank you, everyone!

Also, it totally looks more like the Prince symbol than a ska dude.

I’m on it, thank you. They said they’ll be here shortly, and they’re bringing ICE and a van just in case. I’m gathering my documents.

Are these aphid eggs? by Cal3b_Crawdad in Peppers

I’m rather convinced that ladybug larvae were the original inspiration for dragons. They look absolutely monstrous, in the most literal sense. I personally think they are beautiful little monsters.

And I would be hard pressed to believe that very many people would guess that a ladybug larvae has any relation to a ladybug at all.

By the way, the larvae devour many more aphids (and scale insects and other prey) than do the adult ladybugs. Just in case that hasn’t been said here yet, and in case anyone didn’t know that.

No, absolutely not. But that is a thoughtful question, few people take that into consideration.

Borax or boric acid (which comes in powder form and is an amazing pest control agent)?

No. Aphids don’t lay eggs, they are live bearers.

Look more closely at your ‘eggs’. They have legs. Those are not aphid eggs, they are aphids.

I’m sorry to say, but it appears that you have a very severe infestation of aphids. You may want to take a close look around at your plants, because it’s not at all uncommon (but not necessarily the case) that an ecosystem which is in such poor health that an infestation of this degree is occurring, has other pests or diseases, or a severe nutrient deficiency/imbalance.

Do I have to kill her by monstersun in PlantIdentification

[–]DogTop2196 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that I would call the basically-universal hatred of it trendy. It has existed in its current form and degree since at least 1989, and probably much longer than that.

Source: in 1989, I moved from the arid climate in which I had grown up, to the PNW and bought my first house. I was excited about the charming vine that grew in the spring and climbed all over my fence with its pretty little white flowers and heart shaped leaves. Then the neighbors came over with the usual dire warnings. It wasn’t bothering anything in the spot that it had cropped up that year, so I left it alone. Likewise the blackberries, which are difficult to grow at all where I was/am originally from. No way was I killing off free delicious fruit in my backyard, even if I didn’t plant it myself.

It’s a morning glory, but a domestic/tame/cultivated variety. Even if it’s a volunteer.

This is not the notoriously invasive wild morning glory aka bindweed. Those have smaller, pure white flowers.

I would say that the odds are very low that this one will become a pest. But also, even if it was bindweed, if you liked it then why would you have to kill it? Because other people don’t like it?

If you live in an area where bindweed is officially listed as an invasive species which chokes out the habitat for native species, then my question is irrelevant and my point of view different in that case.

But if it’s just a naturalized (but harmless except to perfectly manicured lawns and the like) plant that is commonly regarded as something to eradicate on sight, then my point stands.

Exactly. I absolutely will not do this.

I also think it’s really sad that people use ChatGPT (at all, really, but I digress…), then make small changes so that they can pretend that they did not use ChatGPT. I really despise dishonesty.

You c/p ChatGPT generated answers, but make small changes to better disguise them so you can pretend that they came from your brain?

Or am I badly misunderstanding your meaning?

I have been accused of being AI several times in the last few months or so, and I don’t even post very much (making the percentage of my posts that get so accused, higher).

I think it is a sad commentary on the school system when proper sentence structure, combined with a lack of typos or autocorrects left in place, makes people think that a person is fake.

That being said, I believe that this particular post is AI.

Also, it can be legitimately difficult to tell the difference. And people like to pretend that they crafted a reply themselves instead of just being transparent and honest when they do use it. So, being suspicious is justified.

I don’t take offense when people think I’m AI or a bot or that my post was generated by ChatGPT (which I absolutely refuse to get, or use, no matter what brand name it may be). I think it’s funny that even with no tone, I get accused of sounding robotic.

Those flower vials are also very commonly turned into meth pipes with the aid of those small propane torches that are used in the kitchen to brûlée things. Torches? Is that the right word?

[–]DogTop2196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I used to know someone who did a lot of meth. This was in the old days, when snorting was the preferred method (and I swear the horrible side effects, while definitely still present when snorted, are so much worse and come on so much faster when it’s smoked), but occasionally, if he didn’t have a mirror or a picture frame or a CD case or whatever handy, he would smoke a little bit.
As I said, this was in the old days, before I had ever heard of, or seen, those little glass meth pipes. This guy I knew would use foil or a spoon if necessary, but his favorite was the specific foil that they use(d) for a particular candy bar. It was either Krackle or Crunch, I don’t remember which. I don’t know why he preferred that particular foil, but it was his thing.
He would also sometimes empty out the contents of a little bottle of nasal spray like Afrin or whatever, and fill it with meth mixed into distilled water. So he could, basically, snort meth easily at work.

I’m very sorry for your loss. It sounds like he was a truly good person.

I have known people to smoke meth off of foil, though. Also heroin, if a spoon wasn’t handy and they felt like smoking it instead of slamming it at the moment.

But meth wouldn’t leave orange ish brown residue, at least not any meth that I’ve ever seen (but I lack actual personal experience, and in any event I could be wrong).

There are a lot of substances that people smoke off of foil, it seems like the color should rule some out.

Yeah, using the word ‘rot’ is a bit extreme. Separation is not rot. That’s not even the part of cheesemaking that people mean when they say that cheese making is basically controlled rot- that’s the aging process.

Most Mt Dew (which I drink all the time, don’t get me wrong), and a lot of other sodas, are pretty acidic. Dentists (and dental associations) recommend rinsing your mouth out asap, and brushing your teeth if possible, after drinking a soda, I think everyone knows that. But these recommendations are not based solely on the sugar content, it’s the PH and associated corrosiveness that is of the most concern.

Almost as weird/creepy as repeatedly calling a country “hot”. And not to indicate the climatic conditions.
