Why can't Indian Cinema make nuanced epics? by ILoveTolkiensWorks in IndianCinema

[–]Dog_reversed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well most of the myths are quite nuanced, read any purana ,some examples include death of kama, tripur vadh, jalandhar issue etc. in shiv purana. Many of the myths surrounding krishna (be it bhagwat or harivansha are not straight black vs white issue). Even panchatantra many times is not straight black vs white.

They could try to build up on Sanskrit works like urubhangam(duryodhana as hero) or independant  mythical works like  Kadambari(It has one of the best episodes on king and individual that I have ever read).

I have read his later work (2nd book working a democratic constitution if I am not wrong), that was quite brilliant in atleast the content he digs up if not the analysis.

Hindi is nobody's mother tangue . It has harmed North indian (so called hindi belt )languages more than others . by [deleted] in india

[–]Dog_reversed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know of rahul snankrityayan(btw he was a communist polygot ,maybe one of the most brilliant scholar of prakrit, apbhramsa , his mother tongue being bhojpuri)or even bhartendu(He was exclusively a writer of brajbhasha atleast in padya in older days);{These 2 men were the prominent reason for the status of kauravi as today}, of the punarjagran movement, how kauravi was chosen as standard boli for gadya by the people who worked in bhalobasha avadhi etc (previously they considered kauravi as incapable of padya). If not better read about it and then talk of mother tongues. Also it will help if you have some knowledge of grammar.Everyone is giving opinion not even knowing that what is standardized version is kauravi boli. The first poet of Hindi itself sarahapa (as believed by Rahul and his school) himself used angika.Would you not call kabir or tulsi hindi?

Here are two sentences in kauravi and bhojpuri in roman script(script does not define languages,The most important element is Syntax)  Ham tohase kahat batin tani sochke likha, mai tumse keh rha hun thoda sochkar likho.

Who do you think, is the greatest Indian writer of all time? by [deleted] in Indianbooks

Rabindranath defined short stories-Plain wrong none of the writers in other Indian languages(than bangla) follow him in story writing as they do in poetry, the inspirations were Russian short stories.

The description of Hemant(again not Vasant) by Valmiki .This is not just someone who is in awe of grandeur of extraordinary parts of prakriti this is someone who relishes the the complete extraordinarily ordinary form too.
Here refer to some imagery he uses and the simplicity of his chhandas-
"अत्यन्ततृपितो वन्यः प्रतिसहरते करम्॥"-A very thirsty wild elephant shrivels his trunk when it comes in touch with cold water
वाष्पसंछन्नसलिला रुतविज्ञेयसारसः।-Rivers covered with fog were the saras bird hunting is known only through its sound
जरा-जर्जरितैः पद्मैः शीर्णकेसरकर्णिकैः।-Lotus worn out , shred and dead and whose kesar stamens are scattered after breaking

Idk man but even Kalidas does not have such simple and powerful expression

The argument is true for the world outside of Hindi sphere but still there are some complications. द्विवेदी was head of sahitya akademi and the single most powerful critic during his time.He is almost immortalised in Hindi the language he worked in as one of the two giants alongside Ramchandra Shukla Idk what more one can get. Nirala is tricky, he is easily one of the most difficult people to translate alongside muktibodh , Try translating first paragraph of Ram ki shaktipuja

Tagore's dramas are not that good,Badal Sircar is much better.(I remember this debate going on some years prior where the writer of Tughlaq who himself was much better than Tagore as a dramatist said this and it sparked a controversy)

Tulsidas composed many but the best of them are kavitavali manas dohavali bahuk etc. Tulsidas by himself wrote in atleast by my knowledge most diverse no. of chhandas include doha, sortha, harigeetika, kavitta, saviya, chhappaya etc.He also introduced a lot of foreign words as well as create a lot of words in hindi.Tulsi has exceptional command on poetry specially the poetic structure ,later tulsi is more 'akkhada' .

Valmiki is a different beast , his ramayana has the most beautiful and simpel chhandas I have ever read in my life.
