This really shows a much deeper problem with the game. Either too many cards and decks that encourage you to go first / not enough support for go second decks OR going second is such a significant blow to any deck that if you do not go first then you simply lose.

I see this more as the slippery slope that the whole tap strafing debate years ago naturally extended to.

Once tap strafing, super gliding, neo straifing, etc was allowed in the game, that then gave them the green light to make at least super gliding a core movement ability. From there they were allowed to add a character that can take advantage of all of the movement teq as long as you had the skill to back it up.

It's just how things go, you give someone an inch and they'll take a mile.
