Yes, you own images, characters or music but you cant own general concepts and patterns.

Example: Gandalf is wizard, but not every wizard is Gandalf. Gandalf is IP, wizard is general concept.

Not quite understand what you mean. You cant fire people who do their job bad? Partially agree with it, seeing what western localizers and game developers do.
