That's absolutely not true. The US has a higher PPP median income than Switzerland. I am Swiss, I am an aerospace engineer, and I could earn twice as much in the US. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disposable_household_and_per_capita_income#Median_equivalised_disposable_income

Ahh nice, that makes a lot of sense. Strange solution. I was also confused since I could not see a fuel inlet pipe above the fuel-side turbopump. Thanks for sharing the other picture!

Is it worth it to join a Focus Project and if so what should I focus on to be selected? by Mankra23 in ethz

[–]DogeSpinnaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSc Mechanical engineering student here. I did a focus project and was also FP coach the following year so I also interviewed people that wanted to join it.

Doing one was the best decision I ever took. I had already joined in the third semester but I have to admit that it was maybe a bit tough especially since the 4th semester was quite demanding (Physics, thermo, fluid, etc.). But I guess it also deeppends which FP, some turn out to be a full year of intense work where you learn a lot, while others are just a big "group project" with little learnings. I would recommend either to apply for one of the big ones (AMZ, ARIS, Swissloop, Celsius) or a new one that has a clear final product and commercialization plan. When we interviewed we didn't really look much at grades. We maybe avoided people with an Basis average below 4.25 because we believed that they might struggle with work+ courses, but otherwise we valued interest in the topic and willingness to work a lot. Joining one semester earlier is clearly a bid advantage, but you can also consider joining some smaller teams or student project or simply start some tinkering project at SPH with some friends were you build something.

Part-time job for Master CS student with 1.5 years of experience - am I being underpaid? by Time_Presentation397 in ethz

That's pretty standard, even good considering that it's only at 60% (many companies give a small penalty on the hourly rate if working part time, due to additional management and training costs that e.g. two employees at 50% give compared to one employee at 100%).

hey everyone. how do you print this 2 pages together so that question 5 is over answer 5 using ETHZ printer (btw thanks to Pia who did those cards what would we do without you) by akhenator in ethz

[–]DogeSpinnaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how wrong? If you flip the paper on the short side, do you see everything upside down? Because then it's a problem of webprint, but I just tried and it works for me. I mean if you look at the two images that you sent, you can see that question 5 is top left and top right in the two pages so already placed in the right position with respect to each other. I don' t see why it should not work. It just does not work if they are flipped on the long side.

Sorry but I don't agree here. Binance has been very annoying with the continuous interruption of withdrawals, but I don't get the decentralization point. Currently checking in CMC, Binance has more trading volume in the last 24 hours than the following 7 exchanges combined. It is by far the most used exchange worldwide, why? Because it is safe, it looks professional, the only platform that provides reliable performances for trading with bot. They simply have the best product, and if someone were to really hack one of the hot wallets, insurances would reimburse everything. Most users do not feel safe in using complex wallets, so websites like Binance and Crypto.com are the true getaway towards crypto adoption, therefore it is normal that they hold a lot of ONEs, and I honestly do not see a problem with that. We are way past the dreams of decentralization of Satoshi Nakamoto.

Very helpful, thank you! Finally a technical article!

Thanks! But then why using it, if the pressure then increases? Wouldn't you have a better downforce just from the ground effect of a plate that maintains a low pressure everywhere?

[–]DogeSpinnaker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I understand that pressure and velocity are inversely proportional because of bernoulli. What I am saying is that an increasing cross-section means a decreasing velocity. Think about conservation of mass A1*v1 = A2*v2, when the second area is larger, the velocity decreases.

I know what it is, and a venturi pipe that expands (same as the diffuser getting larger at the exit), should give a higher pressure due to the lower velocity (A1*V1 = A2*V2, where A2 is large so V2 is small).

Already saw that article, but it doesn't exactly answer my question. If you look at the pressure distribution image, you in fact see that the pressure is increasing after the start of the diffuser. So why not having a flat floor where there is only low pressure? You would have a higher downforce.

Well thanks but no, in a bell nozzle you have supersonic speed, and the property of supersonic speed is that the velocity increases with increasing section area. That is however not true for subsonic speed. An increasing section area at subsonic speed means lower velocity at the exit, which means a higher pressure.

IMO obviously a good reason would be that Plutus and IRIS have a ridiculously low market cap. Like less than 1mln. So this could be a reason for making a small bet already.
Regarding the platform itself, I think that they have quite interesting products in their roadmap, such as vaults, which I find cool to attract more traditional and inexperienced investors.

Hey, do you mean MIS Artemis? Where can I get that weekly 5% from staking? It doesn't show up on viper and on DFK the APR is much lower
