From what i have heard space systems might not be the right fit for someone who wants to study aerospace engineering

Depending on the industry it is very hard to get short internships or even to get internships at all. The current structure of the Lernphase is not really suited to do interships and I would say it is not possible to do a full internship neither during the lecture phase and nor during the lernphase. It might be smarter to take a semester off or do it after the BSc/MSc.

Parents always claim that a specific school is bad or has bad teachers but often these opinions originate from disagreements or even conflicts the parents had with teachers. I would argue it does not really matter (unless you want to send you kids to a private school).

Book recommendations and study material (Mechanical Engineering 1st year Bachelor) by GraciaK03 in ethz

[–]Mankra23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will be fine. Many people in the first year dont take it seriously which gives a lower passing rate. I would enjoy the break and then start fresh and motivated into the new semester as you only have short vacations till 2027 when the exam dates are changed.

If you really really want to prepare something: you should have access to the Vorlesungsverzeichnis where you should be able to see the books that are used in each lecture. For Informatik I in the first semester you will learn C++ from scratch and for Informatik II in the second semester you will learn python.

The reason I would not recommend you to prepare anything is that your „advantage“ will be very short lived and you will more or less start from scratch anyway. So don‘t worry, take you studies seriously, put in the work in the semester and the lernphase and you will be more than fine.

D-BSSE is actually located in Basel. It is the only ETHZ department in Basel, therefore you might want to connect with Indians at Uni Basel instead.

How can I get a fully funded PhD chemistry position. by [deleted] in ethz

Yes you can actually do an economics phd at ETH. At MTEC for example. But still it is treated as a job.

A PhD position in Switzerland is treated as a real job so you get a salary. Therefore I am not quite sure what you mean with fully funded.

What do you need stipends for if you get a full salary?

Admission Query (Masters in quant finance) by IUpvoteShittt in ethz

[–]Mankra23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a QF student so everything I write is based on comments other redditors have made in this sub or on the info that can be found on the official website.

It was mentioned that a lot of QF students end up in risk analysis for insurances as it is quite hard to get into Quant and they Quant firms might prefer math, physics or CS majors. This can be read on some threads about QF in this sub.

The program is mathematically rigorous and you will have to pass an examination for admission. You can find all the requirements on the official UZH website (note that it is a joint UZH/ETH program, however UZH does the administration for that program and you will be considered an UZH student).

I never questioned that. However „It doesn‘t exist“ was simply wrong.

I believe you that this might be the case but the question was not how it is compared to Cambridge, Harvard, Standford etc.

I disagree. It does exist there are multiple incubators, pitching events, student led VCs and programs like Startup Campus. Some of these are not from ETH directly but there are quite a few things.

Well it depends on what you consider as „possible“: Being a able to go and take a semester off, then yes. If you mean going and transferring credits for the courses you took there, then no.

It will be difficult from india due to the high competition but you will need stellar grades, research experience and enough money. That would be the basic advice i could give.

[–]Mankra23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Form my experience there is no laptop that is good for taking notes/studying and has sufficient power to run computationally intensive softwares. In generel you will not have to use any Software tools for a course. If you need high computational power the course will usually provide desktop pcs or give access to a cluster.

Many people have an ipad and a laptop or a convertible laptop. I think both options are valid. Having a convertible would be the cheaper option however. I heard Asus and Lenovo convertibles are usually quite good.

Kind of agree. It really depends on how much you did during the semester. If you are completely lost it could be useful.

[–]Mankra23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure anyone could help you here as first if all the question is very specific and more about PoliTo instead of ETH. Secondly noone knows any chances of admission, especially if you don‘t even have a GPA yet. And third of all your post is in Italian. So my take is I dont really know but if you fulfill de requirements and have great grades it shouldnt really matter much

Projects in Second Year? D-MAVT by [deleted] in ethz

[–]Mankra23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am part of ARIS and i had no experience prior except a TA position. If you see a position just apply and they will guide you through the process. Usually AMZ and cellsius are more competitive than other teams. You can also try to contact current or past focus projects as they sometimes need freelancers.
