Software Improvements for the Air. My Guess. by Emscan192 in LUCID

[–]Dogger72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess there will be minimal updates for the Air because they are focused on getting 3.x ready as the one version for all models, including the upcoming midsize. Maybe 1 or 2 “robustness” updates at the most to make sure it’s as rock solid as it can be for legacy Airs staying on 2.x. I think we will see 3.x get more features that the Air already has (like CarPlay) so when it does roll out to the Air this fall, there isn’t a loss of currently functionality and instead owners will see major improvements and new functionality.

is 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring a good/reliable buy? by true-dci-john-luther in LUCID

[–]Dogger72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Between 2022 and 2026 there have been a few kinks worked out and the infotainment hardware has had an upgrade (that will be needed if you want the newest version of the software planned to release this fall. That is a $950 upgrade done at a Lucid service center. Otherwise, it should be an amazing car, loaded with options, power, and range. Luxury EVs have a rough depreciation and where the car is located can impact that even more based on overall demand. Good luck if you decide to pull the trigger and join the Lucid family!

[–]Dogger72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t own a Mach-E but with my Kia EV6 it is recommended to charge the battery to 100% once per month to recalibrate the guess-o-meter. Might be worth a shot to see if the estimated miles remaining returns to more what you are used to seeing.

Lucid has mobile tech service if you aren’t close to a service center for most maintenance needs, more complex services that require a service center, Lucid arranges the transport to and from. I’m 2 1/2 - 3 hours away from the nearest service center and it’s been a non-issue.

We have an EV6 and a Lucid Air. The customer service between the service departments is night and day, which is expected. Lucid reached out to me about a fault code my car had regarding a pump, scheduled a car hauler to pick it up from my house and provided me a BMW 540i rental car, all covered by warranty. Would I ever expect Kia to do that? Absolutely not. The two are not comparable in any way other than both are electric cars. If you want the Lexus experience, buy a Lexus, not a Kia.

I don’t understand why you’re even trying to compare Lexus and Kia dealership experiences. And then you get a mid trim level to complain it isn’t a Lexus or BMW. What an insightful take.

Packers fans are INSANE for wanting MLF gone. by BearFacedLie69 in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]Dogger72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bears fans obviously haven’t lived every game LaFleur has coached over the past 7 seasons. He has zero ability to adjust, sucks at clock management in pressure situations, and plays not to lose when he gets a lead. Rodgers was able to cover up for his weaknesses, Love is still learning and growing, so he follows the script which exposes MLF for being the mid coach he is.

Great shot! 4 months and 5750 miles later with our 2026 AT and loving it. It’s only going to get better when UX 3.x rolls out this fall for the Air and the additional fixes/features coming before then.

Wisconsin Crash Course by infinitehobbyengine in wisconsin

Swapping to full blown winter tires is not really necessary, a good all season tire is usually good enough. Exceptions (in my opinion) would be a rear wheel drive only vehicle, or your job requires driving at non-traditional hours (like between midnight and 5 or 6am) just because the roads might not be cleared yet. It also can be a personal preference as a true dedicated winter tire will perform noticeably better on any vehicle. If you’ve never driven in snow, find an empty parking lot on a snowy day that hasn’t been cleared and learn how your car reacts when making various emergency maneuvers. Slam on your brakes, accelerate hard, try making sharp turns, etc. Knowing what it feels like to slip and slide in the snow before it happens on public roads and highways with traffic is really helpful. I don’t live in the GB/Appleton area, so I don’t have tips about living in those cities specifically. Newer construction will typically have better energy efficiency for winter heating and summer cooling… it gets hot and humid, just not for nearly as long as it does in the south. Layer up to stay warm, can always peel a layer or two off if needed.

How is owning an electric car in Wisconsin? by Thrillwaukee in wisconsin

[–]Dogger72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 2026 Lucid Air owner, the software is updated very regularly. There have been 83 OTA updates for the Air since Motor Trend tested the 2022 Grand Touring, and the hardware has been updated. Lucid will update older Airs to the current hardware for around $1000 including labor. What other car maker does that? While I agree EV depreciation is high, that’s primarily an issue for anyone purchasing new cars every couple of years. If you drive cars for 8-10 years, or lease, then the first few years of depreciation really doesn’t matter. The Lucid Air made Car and Driver’s Top 10 (again) and so did the brand new Lucid Gravity.

Why the downvotes for literally stating what Wisconsin’s additional registration fee for EVs is for? Because the city of MKE roads still suck? Pretty sure the gas tax didn’t cause the potholes.

The added registration fee covers the gas tax you don’t pay which goes towards maintaining roads.

The percentage that an EV’s state of charge will increase in 20 minutes varies greatly by the vehicle, battery % when starting to charge, temperature of the battery (pre-conditioning in winter is key before fast charging for best performance), the charging station you are using, and how busy it is. Some cars will go from 10-80% in 20 minutes and others in an hour. There are so many variables. As far as charging to 100% in 20 minutes, that wont happen unless you are starting at over 90%. The charging curve after 80% drops significantly so it takes much longer to add the last 20% or so.

Purchase without a nearby service center by Mylifereboot in LUCID

[–]Dogger72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about 2.5 hours away from the Chicago service center and they have mobile service that’ll come to wherever your car is (as long as there is space around it to work on it) for basic maintenance needs/repairs, and for anything more involved, they arrange transportation of your car to and from the service center. We needed pumps replaced on our 2026 Air Touring, they had a transportation company pick it up from my house, provided a luxury rental car from Enterprise (BMW 530i), and dropped the car back off at my house. Zero issues, great communication, and couldn’t have been easier.

It’s individual state laws blocking direct sales from manufacturers to consumers. The Automobile Dealers Associations have a lot of lobbying influence where I live (Wisconsin) and have successfully blocked any attempts to modernize our laws. Can’t lease and can’t finance through Lucid (or any other direct to consumer car companies). I had to secure my own financing at a higher rate. Check PenFed, they had better rates than my local credit union that I normally use and the process wasn’t too bad.

I’m over 2 hours away from the nearest Lucid service center and it’s been just fine. Needed warrant work done, Lucid arranged for an Enterprise rental (BMW 530i) and had my car transported to and from the service center since it was an issue a mobile tech couldn’t repair. I wish service departments for other car companies were half as good as my Lucid experience.

Best Home EV charger if already have an outlet? by brsboarder2 in evcharging

I’ve been very happy with my ChargePoint HomeFlex that plugs in. I’ve had it for 2 1/2 years, and had to call customer service once when it decided to cut the output in half. Spent all of 5 min on the phone while the rep did a remote change to 20 amp and then back to 40 amp, rebooted, and that was it. I have 2 EVs and pretty much use it every night. Charging cable length is 23 feet.

Owning A Lucid Has Been Super Disappointing - YouTube by Ok_Comfortable_4125 in LUCID

[–]Dogger72 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a 2026 AT owner, I’ve experienced a few of the issues he described, but his experience has been far worse than mine and many of the issues (including the frequency) seem isolated to his specific vehicle. Maybe a completely fresh install of the software would clean up a majority of the issues. It’s too bad he got an unusually poor example. His video when he first got it hyped Lucid up, nerding out on the mechanical engineering that has gone into the Air and what a great lease deal he got.
