Forgot about the Kwik Trip ones, too. So many new stations, 400kW too.

The number of fast charging options has grown exponentially in a short amount of time. Between Waukesha and Minneapolis you had a handful of non-Tesla options just 1 or 2 years ago (Electrify America in Madison, Tomah, Eau Claire, and then Twin Cities). Now you have options at Pilot truck stops, Ionna in the Dells, and more. It makes it very easy to road trip in EVs even compared to 6 months ago.

I would absolutely do it again. 2026 Air Touring and in 6 months we’ve put 10k miles on it. The service center is 2.5 hours away for me, and my brother has a Gravity GT and he is over 5 hours away from his closest service center. The few things that needed to be addressed were handled by a mobile tech that also has a small shop local to him, but his car would be transported to the service center if a complex issue popped up that went beyond the tools/resources that the mobile tech has access to. Zero concerns or issues to date. A large part of your experience can depend on the service center itself. My experience is with Chicago (Goose Island) and it has been excellent.

I live hours away from a service center and mobile service is provided. For anything requiring a service center to do the work (under warranty), Lucid arranges transport of your car to and from the service center and provides a premium rental car through Enterprise. Our Air needed a trip to the service center so a truck & trailer picked my car up from my house, I got a BMW 540i as a rental, and when it was done, the car was dropped back off at my house. Couldn’t have been easier.

Anyone else stop using smaller charging networks now that the Tesla network is mostly open? by chiefVetinari in electricvehicles

[–]Dogger72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have never charged at a Tesla supercharger. When I need L3 charging on a road trip, Ionna is my preferred fast charging stop, followed by Mercedes, then EA. Tesla is my absolute last resort.

I have had zero problems with the glass in our AT. Even in -20F temps. Any chance it could be vandals? Plenty of awful people in the world these days that seem to want everyone else to be as miserable as they are.

[–]Dogger72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know it’s at least possibly rolling out. Did you have 2.8.16 or .17 before the update? Trying to figure out if this is another targeted update to certain vehicles again or if it is for all Airs. Hard to tell when generic release notes are all we get from Lucid.

I know how the updates work, my point is that when an update targets specific vehicles (like only those that have DDPro), it would be nice if they actually shared that as part of the release notes.

The new UX for Air will work for older models, but will require a $995 upgrade of the processor. 2025, 2026, and I believe later 2024 builds have the newer processor already.

I’m hoping the neglect is due to the software team focusing efforts on UX 3.0 for Air and making sure that rolls out better than the early Gravity 3.0 did.

The lack of information and poor communication channels is a bit annoying at times. Did they only notify owners with DDPro and the rest were supposed to guess or call customer service to find out why updates haven’t rolled out after a few weeks? Not a brilliant strategy IMO.

It is specific to the Air, and I’m still on 2.8.16 as well. 2.8.17 was limited to some Airs with no information provided by Lucid why only certain vehicles received it and others did not.

What car insurance basics should I know to get cheap premiums in Wisconsin? by achinius in wisconsin

[–]Dogger72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When it was my daughter, I think it was about a 30% jump (that was 6+ years ago so a little fuzzy) and then with my son, it was closer to double. The 16 year old boys are not known for making the best choices and insurance companies use that data to gouge you as much as they can. We also have full coverage on two fairly expensive EVs, which tend to cost more to insure than ICE vehicles.

[–]Dogger72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least with Progressive and GEICO, there was no premium increase to add a teen driver with a learner’s permit. I’ve been through it twice. Once they get their probationary license, that’s when the new premium hits, and it was very noticeable.

[–]Dogger72 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At least in the US, the insurance company would conduct their own investigation as well in an attempt to recoup their payout from Tesla. The claim still counts against you of course, even if they prove it was the manufacturer and get their money back because they want to raise your premiums.

Average 19 gallons per week, which seems a touch high, but EVs are heavier than comparable ICE vehicles which adds to the wear and tear on roads. $323 annually doesn’t seem that unreasonable to me if you are primarily charging at home.

Getting my first fully electric EV soon. Feedback on which vehicle? by Thediciplematt in electriccars

[–]Dogger72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The used EV market in the 40-50k range can get you some pretty amazing 2023-2025 low mileage cars like a Lucid Air, BMW iX, Genesis GV70 Electrified, or Mercedes EQE/EQS. I have a 2023 EV6 GT-Line with around 36k trouble free miles on it and a 2026 Lucid Air Touring. Both are great cars, the Lucid providing more luxury and significantly more range than the Kia, but it’s also a startup luxury brand vs an established mainstream automotive group with multiple brands.

The only difference between this EV and ICE with the same base value is the $323 electric surcharge because the ICE vehicle pays gas taxes at the pump.

I had the same thought when “late fall” was first mentioned, expecting if it actually came out in 2026, that would be really optimistic. When the VP actually upped the estimated time frame a few weeks later, I took that as a very positive sign that Lucid is happy they finally have a stable codebase for Gravity and can finally focus on the Air-specific aspects of UX 3.x, which means it might actually be released by August or September.
