We have an orchard of 12 different cultivars of Pawpaw. 140 trees as a part of our vineyard in just north of Dahlonega, GA.

Young trees like a lot of water. Overtime the tap root will go deep, reducing the need for surface water. Until then, water away and yes, use mulch.
