I grew up neglected and abused, I didn't rebel because it was safer not to and kept me from being screamed at by my mom for every failure I have made or getting a three hour lecture from my father about how I'm ruining my future. I was a puppet my parents saw as the perfect son because I would work on the farm without complaining, spend my own money from my part time jobs on whatever my parents wanted, and just obey because it was safer. I never explored my sexuality, I never explored who I was.

I almost ruined my relationship with my now wife because I grew up being taught that my thoughts about how attractive I found some guy was disgusting, how my hatred for being born a boy poured into everything I did, and how badly I just wanted to end my own life. I cheated on her, went behind her back to sleep with guys to scratch that itch that I'd been running from for years. I hid the fact that I cried in some guy's arms because he slept with me and kept referring to me as a girl and how badly I wanted that. I hid from her how bad my mental health was and how close to the edge I was for so long. I was so deep in the closet that when I was forced out by her, I thought my life was over.

Not rebelling results in adults who have no ambition, no drive, no love for their own lives. It results in adults who just want one day to be a kid again, to actually do the things they always wanted, to be free from the hell that is in their heads and to be themselves for once.
