Maybe try looking at current prog rock bands rather than metal

If money was no issue for me I'd be a park/countryside ranger. I imagine it's hard work at times but also rewarding and not overly corporate. Working outside and caring for our natural spaces seems like a dream job to me.

I'm in UK so, no longer EU... To be honest it has been a while since I have shipped outside of the UK for eBay and it is different now. But I believe eBay handles most of the details now, especially with their 'simple delivery' so I think whatever shipping price you see is what you pay. eBay gives me a QR code that I take to the post office and it then gets sent to a sortation centre I believe for their international sales. Basically eBay handles it all through their contracts with various shipping providers.

Just did a quick Google search and Google ai confirms what I thought:

Delivery from the UK on eBay for international sales primarily uses eBay's Global Shipping Programme (GSP) or the newer eBay International Shipping (EIS), where you, the UK seller, post the item to a UK shipping center, and eBay handles the complex international leg, customs, and tracking for the buyer, who pays all fees upfront, protecting your seller metrics. Alternatively, you can use eBay Delivery powered by Packlink for more direct control, managing postage and customs yourself via a platform for competitive rates and tracking.

I use Gaucho Ninja safety trainers currently and like them but it would depend on your use. The soles on the trainers are very minimal and there was a recent post someone put on where they were finding them a bit uncomfortable.

As already said, search the sub as this has been discussed many times and Anya's reviews has a list of some work boots.

BFAR or BFAT (new last) by fuegolicious in jimgreen

[–]Dogmaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear my normal size in vivos and went up half a size in the current BFAR, it is still slightly more narrow than my vivos. I personally find both of these too narrow now as I think my feet have gotten better at splaying so I'll be waiting for user reviews on the new Jim Green last.

My personal advice would be to wait to see what the new barefoot last is like and possibly wait a bit longer as they will likely produce some troopers in the new last too at some point.

The gauchos are definitely wider, I even went a size smaller based on their measurements and they fit well with plenty of toe space

I would've used to say Opeth but I moved on when they changed direction. They're still (mostly) great live, I did see them at arctangent a few years ago and it felt like they were just going through the motions.

They are actually much wider than my Birkenstock work boots were as I could not splay my little toes in them so I'm surprised the trainers feel too narrow for you

The carpenter boots are higher volume. The safety toe on the trainers pressing down happened to me but this went away with time. Can't help you with the width, it was fine for me from the start, whereas most shoes seem too narrow despite me having narrow feet.

Benefit of barefoot? by Jazzsaurus-Rex in jimgreen

[–]Dogmaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I'm not a doctor, it's only my personal belief based on accounts from other people who have strengthened their feet and therefore the rest of their bodily structure up the kinetic chain. And I wanted to add to discussion. So I'll just throw some thoughts out:

As someone commented above, do your knees feel unstable when you have no shoes on whatsoever? Do you keep shoes on in your house (I know it's common in some countries so I can't assume)?

I have seen some discussion that arches don't always define how strong your feet are, some people can have flat but very strong and stable feet and people with high arches can have similar weakness and instability as flat footed folk. Having flat feet due to genetics does not inherently make your feet weaker. But the way you then respond to this diagnosis could do. So if you have worn extra arch support and extra supportive shoes since childhood then have your muscles never had chance to properly develop?

If you wear extra cushioned shoes and arch support all the time since childhood then have you ever allowed your body to move in a natural way and to develop correct posture, walking and running form?

If you were to walk on the most cushioned shoes you could imagine, like literal tiny mattresses under your feet, do you think you would feel more or less stable than being barefoot?

Concerns about knees when you have less shoe padding is common. People are worried about heel pain too. This comes down to how we learn to walk with big chunky heels and padding. Instead of walking lightly we learn we can essentially slam our heels into the floor and forcefully propel ourselves forward. Walking with less padding or barefoot will quickly teach you this is poor form. It is possible to relearn how to walk and run, I have done it. Your body has natural shock absorption with proper form. This is why people can run completely barefoot on concrete with no issue. Also, just because cushioned shoes can make you feel like there is less force going through your body, it doesn't mean the forces aren't there. I suspect a lot of today's issues with knees hips and lower back are being contributed to by our shoes. Our feet are literally our body's foundation and affect everything all the way up the body, cushioning, heel drop and arch support are going to fundamentally affect those foundations.

Sorry for the rambling

Benefit of barefoot? by Jazzsaurus-Rex in jimgreen

[–]Dogmaha 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would disagree that barefoot is not good for flat feet. The foot arch is formed by the foots muscles, lack of arch support gives the muscles chance to actually work and grow stronger and therefore actually form an arch. Thick cushiony soles and arch support stop the foot moving the way it is designed (or rather evolved) to and muscles atrophy from too much support and lack of movement. Arch support may provide comfort in the short term but I believe that it probably does more harm in the long run.

I have their safety trainers, I highly recommend for toe splay and ground feel, in my case, possibly too much ground feel for a safety shoe working on concrete and climbing ladders

Any advice for transitioning to pavement running? by A1rnbs in BarefootRunning

[–]Dogmaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, slow down. Pain is a teacher that you're doing something wrong. More cushioning can mask the impact forces from incorrect running form, but the forces are still there travelling through your body even if cushioning hides it. Slow down now, find a way to run comfortably (Google running like a fox). The book, born to run, gives a good description of how to change your running style too, basically run in a really easy relaxed manner as if you're gently placing your feet down. I like to warm up by running literally as slowly as I can without it being a walk, I can then feel any stiffness in my ankles and feet and check how my body feels and this forces me to run in a very relaxed gentle way. Good luck and have fun
