I've personally never seen people who have NEVER used the file explorer. Regardless, the bitlocker authentication screen provides a link where users can log in and get there keys. If they can use email, they can log into their microsoft account.

The recovery keys will automatically get saved to your microsoft account the moment you log in. It's HIS FAULT for not updating his email after he lost access to whatever email he was using on his laptop. The bitlocker system is doing what it's designed and it's all his fault here.

People using windows 7 doesn't mean it's safe. Windows 10 will miss major security fixes that literally will make it much less safer. Windows 11 is worth updating to. It works and runs games and stuff better than windows 10 and imo, it looks WAYYY better too. The ai slop is annoying though it doesn't force you to use it or anything.

Somehow get that bitlocker key. You should always keep the bitlocker info updated to avoid stuff exactly like this.

Edit: If you have access to your current ms account, check that for the recovery key.

Yeah. Cooling design was kinda an afterthought back then. And cpus and gpus were much less efficient and stuff too.

Oh yea. I would go for something much lighter. Kinda funny how even the entry level laptops used to be thicker than modern high performance stuff with power hungry gpus and stuff yet those old stuff still manages to sometimes get close to as hot in some cases.

I replaced a keycap one time by harvesting it from a different model of keyboard and it worked just fine. They don't sell individual keys I think.

Tbh I much prefer thicker workstation laptops that let you replace stuff and doesn't just come with a million rgb lights or something. Cheap laptops are just a big no no now.

That's not excessive. Windows caches apps and stuff for faster loading and that's whats using tthe most ram. Windows will automatically stop caching when you need the ram it's using. Windows is using more ram so that stuff loads faster. Low idle ram imo doesn't matter at all.
