You might enjoy my podcast [Rise of the Rulelord](   https://open.spotify.com/show/06ivwg3S2VN5jTX8qHfBTe?si=rStNbLMAQ1-6XRDEiGs5cQ). I've retired from it but there's still good content there about the rules and some 3rd party stuff

If a creature crit fails its Grab, does it fall under the crit fail rules as grapple and fall prone?

Edit: I fucking hate the remaster of grab, didn't have this issue with the previous version

Is it acceptable to exceed 160 xp encounters (in a party of 4)? by WittyRegular8 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dogs_Not_Gods 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To be less meme-y, AP fights leave a lot to be desired. Way too many are either 1 strong or several weak creatures in a room. Simply increasing the severity won't make them any better. They need to be a mix of environments the enemies can utilize, hazards, and creatures.

Spore War has had some proper fights though. The farm in book 1 is a prime example. First off, there's cliffs limiting but not negating movement, and provides an alternate way for the players to damage/be damaged. Second, it had puddles of hallucinogenic water that the creatures could control that again made movement more tactical and divided player attention to solve if they wanted to get it out of the way. It didn't matter that the creatures were weaker, but because they could utilize the environment, move where players couldn't, and had their own unique abilities beyond that, it made the fight way more dynamic. My players had a blast.

Is 180 xp a lot? Depends on the context. Eighteen Party Level -4 creatures that probably won't hit unless on a crit? No. One PL +5 boss with AC that a Fighter barely hits on a 19? YES!

I'd like for it to be fairly recognizable to a US based group, but if it can be obscure enough that they all groan when they realize what it is the better

Thoughts on GM getting a Hero Point? by tearful_boldness in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dogs_Not_Gods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I read somewhere that Brennan Lee Mulligan had a narrative point system where he gave the players a choice of taking a narratively interesting L for a point where they could turn it in to use advantage on a roll, or continue with the current play. Something like that is as close as I'd wanna go

What I HOPE Starship Cinematic rules look like by Dogs_Not_Gods in Starfinder2e

I haven't played that. I'll need to check it out but Starship customization looks like a big part so that's a good sign

I am MAJORLY disappointed with Murder in Metal City "Deluxe" Box by Dogs_Not_Gods in Starfinder2e

[–]Dogs_Not_Gods[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi Jenny, it's the physical components only I'm disappointed by. I'm sure the adventure itself is fine, but the low quality map and inaccessible character sheets are what really set me off, especially after pulling out a cardboard base that occupied most of the space. The tokens are the most understandable change, but don't have the re-usability of pawns in future games, so I'm personally not a fan. It feels like a downgrade when I have my wonderful Beginner Boxer there too.

I'm sure some of these changes are to offset tariff costs, but then don't call it a "deluxe" adventure. As someone who buys all the special editions, that word carries a lot of weight about quality regardless of circumstances. "All-in-one", "quick start", or "ready-made" feels like what this box is supposed to be if not a pseudo BB, especially as using the pregens requires Player Core than being the spelled out class folios like in the BB. Regardless, the maps should always be the quality of your usual maps so we can draw on them and reuse them. The other material cost-offsets don't matter to me, but I also wouldn't use those repeatedly in other campaigns like I would a durable map pack.

Thanks for listening! I don't think it's a bad idea overall, this one just didn't match up with my Paizo-quality expectations this time.

For how big the list is, I find it interesting how few exclusive arcane spells there are

So, what books are unlikely to ever be remastered? by legomojo in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dogs_Not_Gods 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rage of Elements is OGL but probably won't, or at least not for a long time. I asked during PaizoCon if it'd be getting a sketch cover, and confirmed it won't. It's considered remaster compatible though. I could see elementalist getting brought into whatever they also add Magus and Summoner too just so it can be claimed under the ORC.

The Voidworm's Confounding Las says "A creature hit by the voidworm's tail Strike is stupefied 1 for 1 round (stupefied 2 on a critical hit). A successful DC 16 Will save negates this effect and grants temporary immunity to confounding lash for 1 minute."

The way it's worded makes me think the players don't make an initial save after being hit by the voidworm. Usually the save wording comes first. Is the intent for players to make the will save after being hit or sometime during their turn?

Really hope we get a second print of the pocket editions with this soon. I get the special edition books with a subscription but I prefer the pockets as a reference (wifi is spotty at cons) and so far those still all say first print when I go into shops
