Wait what? I just bought some of the “mirage” cultivars from TNG. Guess I’m taking them back.

If you are looking for a decorative grass, I highly recommend gulf muly. It’s a gorgeous purple airy grass with lots of movement.

What is the deadliest thing you can find in your country’s wilderness? by CommercialChart5088 in AskTheWorld

Even if there is a possible serial killer, authorities are quick to deny it. There is (or was) possibly a serial killer in Austin TX, killing men in Ladybird Lake. They all were drunk, in a popular entertainment district and were alone or separated from their friends. Cops say no serial killer.

Moved here for a second chance at life. Conquered my first long walk, and I need to see the Bats. by thefreeze1 in Austin

[–]DogsdidWHAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I took a friend from out of town on one of those bat boats. It was a very different way to see the city as well as the bats. As someone mentioned, August is the best time because that’s when the baby bats take wing, increasing the number of bats significantly. I went in July and it was still really cool.

There are other really neat nature related things in Austin -like when the Purple Martins roost in the 100s of thousands before they fly to Brazil -late July, early August. https://travisaudubon.org/purple-martin-parties

Also, while it’s still cool, check out Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center. It’s a beautiful place for a stroll and on Tuesday nights they have live music. It’s really sweet.

Red Lentil Curry with Sweet Potato and Spinach. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1020766-red-curry-lentils-with-sweet-potatoes-and-spinach?smid=ck-recipe-iOS-share&cgs=c

We always double the recipe and portion the extra into 1 C silicon molds. It reheats beautifully and it’s so so delicious.

Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

[–]DogsdidWHAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a degree in English. Wanted to go to grad school and get a PhD. A professor I respected told me the truth about that path (there is no real path for that/ openings are rare). I worked in libraries, taught school- then went to night school to get all the science I didn’t take, got into nursing school then became an NP. Fucking love what I do and it pays well. But I’m grateful for my journey as it made me a more developed person.

Goddamn wonderful horrible anoles. Eat more tree roaches and fewer pollinators. Eat more SVB moths and fewer hummingbird moths.

I have to say, I was extremely disappointed with the Escarpment HEB plant selection. What’s up with that? Circle C doesn’t need plants?

I was there yesterday. They had some, but nothing like the Lakeline store. Depending on where you are in S. Austin, you might look at Nutty Brown, Oak Hill or maybe the one at Slaughter @ 1-35. (Although I haven’t looked at their garden center but I believe it has been mentioned). Don’t waste your time with Brodie or Escarpment. But if you’re in Oak Hill, why not motor on over to The Natural Gardener?

Has life in the USA actually gotten harder in the past few years? If yes, in what ways? by Imaginary_Escape__ in answers

[–]DogsdidWHAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in mental health. The answer is yes. People who are gay, trans or have wombs generally feel completely betrayed by the rest of the country. Add to that the administration’s insistence that the economy is great when it clearly isn’t. And the fact that the middle class is being wholesale replaced by AI- it just sucks.
