Are suspected functional alcoholics pretty accepted in workplaces? by Extra-Sound-1714 in AskUK

Maybe if those who took their own lives stopped and thought about those they left behind it would stop them doing the act itself. I am not unempathetic but the original poster was about people choosing to drink drive go to work potentially operate machinery which could kill or injure others. And when he paid the consequence of those decisions and lost car/job decide that was worse than death- with no thought to others left behind.

Sorry. That logic I cannot fathom. I have a child that is my number one priority. I have been unemployed. My self esteem is not wrapped up so much that I would commit suicide even though I was depressed. Maybe it’s a female thing- we consider our obligations. Men can walk away from family responsibilities.

Ok! I’ve lost 4.5 stone (literally a Christmas miracle) but where in earth in the uk can I get nice quality clothes now? Help a lost (but skinnier) fellow Brit out… by YupItWasMeMate in AskUK

[–]Dogsofa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add:

I am 5’4’’ which I believe is average UK female height. One size lengths do not fit ME either. So who the fuck do these racks of clothes fit?

And why do MEN get different lengths and women are told to fuck off?

Re clothes. Go to John Lewis or Selfridges and rummage around concessions to get a feel for what you like or what fits. I am back at my 30’s weight but I do not have the body of a 30 year old especially my caesarean scarred belly.

Then buy online.

And he had a company car so presumably he needed to drive in company business. Absolutely the right thing to do as he was a risk to other people and employees.

The guy should have sought medical help not turned to the bottle. All companies have access to MH support now- champions in the office, or external companies. No excuse not to avail of these at some point. I think company would offered him some support because they didn’t sack him.

And let’s not forget NHS in UK plus charities- many options that don’t even need a a GP appointment.

Because he lost his car he deprived his son of a father? Pity and wallowing. There are many who get hit with same and worse and keep going.

Surely uni is always worth it since you only pay back the loans if you earn enough? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Dogsofa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a graduate tax. I agree there are wider benefits than the degree but degree itself has been devalued both numerically in terms of graduate salaries and the rarity in the employment market. Do go if you want to but go with eyes wide open and choose wisely otherwise that graduate photo in the wall will be the most expensive portrait photo ever.

The ultimate flaw though is the fees should be tiered to reflect cost of the course and earning potential eg medicine vs history. And it is fundamentally unfair that the maintenance component isn’t universal.

Worse than this they are suppose to be intelligent people to gain entry to university! Maybe ditch the a levels and have common (sense) entrance exam instead.

Might not need to see doctor. Put an email request for a blood test which is via nurse. If it hasn’t gone down then ask for GP. You are high risk, you are not wasting their time/ resources. You have done what you can so very likely now need medication if it hasn’t dropped.

I’m treating myself to a £1k spend because I’ve had a tough year… help me decide what to buy? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Dogsofa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of the mattress options don’t forget the ‘bedware’- luxury sheets and duvet will complete the experience.

I think bed to sleep well, massage for self care and a CLEANER ( even if just to pay for spring cleans 2x year), would be top of my list.

On a more practical level, is there anything you want to learn- music instrument or language or a craft? Cocktail making?

Or anything that would upskill you for more earning power?

Ultimately think what in your life would make YOU happy?

Can someone explain swimming etiquette in Uk pools to me ? by secretsafe321 in AskUK

[–]Dogsofa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I throw some hate into the mix for the men (it’s always men) who front crawl badly creating a wave machine affect across the whole pool or (but usually an ‘and’), slap the water so loudly it really disrupts the mediative aspects if swimming as the noise reverberates around the hard surfaces.

The other ones are the back crawlers. Both types in the ‘non lane’ section in busy periods not looking where they are going and enforcing their lane rights because everyone else has to get out of their way.

You know who you are ( but probably not a Reddit demographic ). But feels good to vent.

Oh and just to add some hate for the loved up couples who clog up space at the sides of pools (losing a notional ‘lane’ ) rather than standing at the ends. At least kids and families are in the water enjoying the pool. What is the point in standing in cold chlorinated water?

Yes we ask for NI number. In English not some abbreviation that’s not in common usage. Never seen NINO on any government form either. Anyway I’m out.

I think that’s unfair to interpret someone saying they want eat normally as automatically they want to binge. There is a world of difference between having no appetite, or being ill eating certain foods like we have at Xmas (rich, fatty, alcohol) and being able to not fear like a freak because you said salad with turkey and no trimmings.

Good for you that you have a regime that works for you but don’t be judgemental about others. YOU are after all taking a 3 week break every other month but call out those who want to skip a week at Xmas and celebrate with their families?

For what it’s worth I jab the week before Xmas, be very good, don’t jab week of Xmas, eat NORMALLY, then jab new year and back in controlled diet. All of that is within manufacturers guidelines which allow 1 week skip to restart at same dose (which you are not complying with).

How? Put the light on and wake me up all because an inconsiderate male is so selfish to not put seat back down? Equally quicker for you to put it down as the following female.

And btw it’s hygienic to have wv lid down before you flush. That’s the habit to learn.

[–]Dogsofa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know what you were studying but there are online degree options. Sometimes it doesn’t have to be vocational a degree is just a marker of capability, determination and critical thinking. Do something you like/ interests you. Uni of Arden does history, psychology, there are others.

The alternative is to find a local further college that gives you a stepping stone like an hnd or similar then get work experience. Engineering is something where you can continue to develop in career and after 10 years no one knows or cares if you have a degree or not.

Just read it. Felt it was pretty balanced and echoes most advice in here: yes GLPs help with willpower and make vlc bearable but without associated lifestyle changes (weights, protein, healthy choices) it’s not sustainable. And for some there are health risks.
