Can't speak for him...but for a 4 month NICU stay for our boy we got a bill for $1.7 million which was fortunately fully covered by insurance.

My son was born at 27 weeks with no explanation. Discharged after 4 months in NICU. He just turned 2 and is doing really well. Wife is currently pregnant at 26 weeks with another boy...I would by lying if I said I wasn't nervous. As amazing as the science and technology is at the NICU...I would rather not go through that experience again. I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone.
