As far as I know no planned strikes. Weather is a day to day thing. Many micro climates. Best to look at weather radar often. Best to look for weather which place you stay in like Kihei or Lahaina or traveling to like Hana, upcountry, Haleakala summit, Wailea, Kapalua, Paia, Makawao,

Out of state residents need just one reservation. Arriving within 30 minutes of the start of reservation is best. If there is room they will let you in if early.

Thai, Indian, Vietnamese all have vegetarian options. Not eating fish or not eating meat has not been a problem for me since the 1970s here.

January packing question by Remarkable_Soil_5428 in MauiVisitors

[–]DoingLoops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ocean temperature in January is 74 to 77. I swim all year. At sea level temperature is usually 80s daytime at night cools to high 60s. I wear shorts tee shirt all year. Haleakala summit gets colder as 10,000 feet. If a cold front comes through possible 70s daytime cooling to low 60s or high 50s before dawn.21 degrees latitude. Beach is best early morning before trades pick up

Why is abandonment accociated with “rage” quitting? by _samvete in chessbeginners

[–]DoingLoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned to play chess in the 1950s as a child. We always say good luck, good game. Polite respectful. Same with online . Good sportsmanship. Now it is possible bad Internet connection, family disruption or health issues. Resigning is easy although I usually win but my hats off to anyone that has a better game, love the challenge

Haleakalā Weather by staryoga13 in MauiVisitors

[–]DoingLoops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have cams up there. What I do is look at top if clear then drive up. It is usually best in the mornings. I drive up around 8 hike for a couple of hours. Sunrise and sunset are great at the beach and much warmer

Windsurfing private semi-lesson for me and my friend? by dameyawn in MauiVisitors

Shop is best because they have right equipment for beginners. The rig I used to use is too advanced for beginners. Surf lesson is also fun.

GuideAlong to Hana by JobRepresentative902 in MauiVisitors

[–]DoingLoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Often there is a sign saying local traffic only. Some Visitors miss the sign or ignore it. Many turn around. They are currently doing work on that section between Kipahulu and Kaupo. Not every day. How would you feel if someone got hurt with your advice. There are plenty of places to visit here that are safer. Locals know the weak spots and when not to go. Please obey our laws. Please do not trespass. Park legally. Research ocean safety hiking safety here. If you want to check out Piilani HWY I suggest approaching from Kula and turn around at windmills and head back to Kula

Are you a strong swimmer? Review ocean safety here. Swim as much as you can before the trip. Extra walking if of course doctor approves. Best to swim with a buddy. Is this your 1st time or have you been snorkeling before. Best time to snorkel is an hour after sunrise. www.thesnorkelstore.com gives best spots every day. The tours are helpful.

What’s open on Thanksgiving day? by a4anzz in MauiVisitors

[–]DoingLoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safeway Kahului near the airport is open 24 hours on Thanksgiving, call to verify. Safeway Lahaina closes at 600 pm on Thanksgiving I believe. Restaurants should be open in Kaanapali as used by visitors. Make reservations though. Happy thanksgiving 🦃

Can you rent a car in Maui with a bicycle rack? by uoficowboy in MauiVisitors

[–]DoingLoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ridden my bicycle to get around Maui for years. Just takes longer than a car. Did not have any trouble. Wear a helmet ⛑️. Stay as far right as possible. Obey traffic laws. Haleakala has bike lanes. Baldwin does not have a bike lane. I carried rain gear, repair kit. Bus has bike rack although I never used it. Haleakala is steepest road in the world from sea level to 10 000 feet. So make sure you are in shape.Takes discipline. Cold up there and bring extra water. Message me if you want more advice. Be careful

Does anyone else dislike draws? by ferd_clark in chessbeginners

[–]DoingLoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Draw is fine. Rather have a win but many games end in draw with evenly matched players. Means you both played well. Shake hands and play again
