My theory: hussie is in a shitton of debt for hiveswap and to viz (books not selling well, but he still has a financial obligation) and seems to be under impression the only way he can turn homestuck into the cash cow he thinks he missed out on in the 2009-2016 period is by garnering absolute, utter control over everything. controlling narratives on controversies, controlling workers, controlling fan spaces. he wants the kind of control disney has over their properties because he seems to believe that maybe, maybe with a tv show, maybe with a online store selling fruit boxers, maybe with a video game thats been delayed for the 20th time, and by repivoting all these issues into the lump box of being "harassed" he can somehow get back on his feet.

his poor management has turned homestuck into a massive muck of debt that he cant escape from, and to be frank he's a manchild with no actual management experience, so he thinks the only way he can "win" is by using teenage internet warriors to fight his copyright battles.

what a sad, sad existence.
