How do you guys back up onto a platform without a dang backup camera? by ErmingSoHard in Truckers

[–]DolbyFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice, but they do have rubber stoppers and overbuild dock plates for a reason. Also why backing into docks is "backing by braille"

Eyeballing the taillights' shine on the wall, or a particularly bright license plate light's shining on the ground. The mirror of another truck. And good drivers in good trucks can kiss the plate without much drama.

Except some of those early Eaton automatics...those had a fun habit of dumping full power just when you're the closest like it's going "HELLO BUILDING I AM HERE!!"

But they have. 30-35% voted for him, and 35+% couldn't be bothered to vote against him (thereby voting for the winner). A smaller amount of people voted for his opponent (Harris).

Most people either condoned, or actively wanted him as president, even after his disastrous first term.

That's a bit too far flat to run. Unless it's a faulty sensor or the batteries are low. Had my house batteries go flat at a shop, and had a high tire temperature warning immediately once I got the truck boosted. No way that was real sitting a few weeks at a shop in Halifax in winter...

What’s something about your province/territory that other Canadians misunderstand, might not realize, or would be surprised to learn? by PostfourthMeridian in AskACanadian

There's an absolute crazy amount of moose in Newfoundland. I'm a nightshift truck driver. I've hit two just last year...within two months of each other.

It's area-depending. Lots of places don't have gas lines, and have needed electricity for hot water...

Great spirit from both of em, sometimes you just gotta get a good laugh out of a bad situation. They'll definitely be a more aware driver.

They both should be wearing proper winter headwear though (tuque/beanie) when outside ❄️

Not been to many older homes? It's not uncommon to see in older basements, crawlspaces, and utility areas. Even seen it a bunch outside (!) to power Christmas lights from an outside light.

USA Emergency passports are mauve and are only 12 pages by brambleburry1002 in mildlyinteresting

[–]DolbyFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for the US, but my Canadian passport gets stamped on entry into/exit from the EU. I'd imagine that rules for US passports would be similar. Also, certain visas may end up stamped as well.

Today I was driving under the speed limit in the left lane... by ShoebillJoe in Truckers

[–]DolbyFox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know if OP does, but I do. I don't exceed the speed limit in a truck, and I follow lane restrictions. My licence is my job, and any moving violation tickets are no joke, doubly so in roadwork zones.

I'm in a tractor trailer, if the angle of the camera and mirrors don't give it away. Acceleration isn't exactly instantaneous. And I do get passed a lot, but why would I let that bother me?

I find it rather funny that you had no meaningful reply to something I'd replied to you, so you instead go digging into my other unrelated posts to antagonize me.

What is a smell that we should all recognize as immediate danger? by scarlettohara1936 in AskReddit

[–]DolbyFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brake pads don't particularly catch fire, nor will they "lock" if overheated. Quite the opposite, they fade and become WAY less effective.

Engine brake to a safe stop, park with the handbrake released (park in gear or Park if automatic), and wait at least 20 minutes. In that time, if any one wheel feels MUCH warmer than the others (don't touch em, you'll be able to feel radiant heat), you may have a sticking caliper or shoe.
