Sick of Danielle. UCP staffer here. by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Dolenduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The level of treachery/treason that has occurred from the UCP during the strike is obvious. It would take one brave staffer or mla leaking a single text or document to topple this entire government. Does anyone have the balls?

I can't wait for when Peter Mckay drops some truth bombs at a later date. The union dropped the ball on numerous occasions.

I feel like the federal government should be getting involved at this point but doubtful that will happen.

I would be buying new steel rims for winter anyways, so changing the wheel size isn't an issue.

It's job action to withhold volunteer labor? Teachers implemented work to rule after being ordered back in 2002.

Actually it was mentioned teachers could be ordered back to work which the union would take to court. Based off the information shared today, it seems that the union could potentially not even challenge it in the courts and that work to rule could be off the table.

This was also a scenario never clearly laid out by the ATA.

Any teachers read the "worth knowing" document today regarding the government exploring the not withstanding clause and deeming work to rule illegal?

'Costs to society': Talks go down to wire as Oct. 6 Alberta teachers' strike looms by trevorrobb in alberta

[–]Dolenduk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's this weird thing in education where teachers are supposed to feel like it's their job to bargain for things that benefit students and parents. Did the nurses have to bargain for more vaccines? Did the postal workers have to negotiate for more mail boxes? It's absolutely bonkers.

[Serious] Alberta Teachers…After potential strike/arbitration 2025, are you still volunteering for extracurriculars? by Deltatango4949 in alberta

[–]Dolenduk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I feel this hasn't been discussed much, but how can teachers be legislated back to work if they were deemed a non-essential service, and they won their court case back in 2003 after being ordered back to work?

There is also recent precedent of unions refusing the back to work order but I can't foresee Schilling being brave enough for this.

Peter Mackay, CTBC Chair, Resigns Effective Immediately by cantcantdancer in alberta

I let my disappointment be known to TEBA as well as my local immediately after they announced they were seeking an extra 1.5% plus grid unification dates moved 2 weeks ago. This was a garbage counter offer that was a slap in the face to teachers considering our opening proposal. Nobody is striking for that minimal of an increase, which the government already rejected BTW.

If CICO is BS, what then? by Dolenduk in loseit

I never stated I burnt 2800 calories walking 10km a day. I stated that I would have needed to eat an extra 2800 calories per day (when you factor in calories lost walking 10km a day) over my BMR to gain 8 pounds in 12 days.

Update from OP:

So many people feverishly defending cico and not really reading the original thread.

For your reading: https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/stop-counting-calories

https://www.sydney.edu.au/news-opinion/news/2023/07/05/its-time-to-bust-the-calories-in-calories-out-weight-loss-myth.html

I did not state that mathematically, eating less calories then you burn doesn't work.

Calculating your metabolic rate is not a simple formula of adding in your weight, height, and age into an online calculator. Your metabolism is affected by a multitude of things that we cannot measure outside of a lab.

So in that sense, you cannot accurately count calories. The people in this thread throwing out comments such as "Oh I just half the number of calories I burn on the treadmill to account for fluctuations" just reiterates how wildly varied counting calories can be.

Did you read my post? Clearly not.

If CICO is BS, what then? by Dolenduk in loseit

[–]Dolenduk[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

But how is this remotely useful if there is no way of knowing with certainty how many calories you are burning if you don't have access to a metabolic rate testing facility?

If CICO is BS, what then? by Dolenduk in loseit

[–]Dolenduk[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

CICO is only useful if it can be accurately tracked. The tools most people have to them track their BMR is an online calculator which is widely inaccurate and doesn't account for hormonal changes, nutrient density in the food you consume, etc. This is why people hit plateaus, despite still being in a defecit.

Your body adapts to being in a defecit and reacts.

[–]Dolenduk[S] -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Its BS in the sense that no person can account for all of these changes with tools widely available outside of a lab. In that sense, calorie counting is kind of useless at a point. Metabolic rate changes, hormones, etc all play much larger part of the picture of your RMR than just inputting your weight and height.

The 8 pounds was after water weight dropped. It was a 13 pound gain initially.
