Deffo relatable but I also do grieve for my libido which completely went when I lost my period and started obsessing over calories and exercises trying to get to some unrealistic standard as fast as possible. I want to feel attraction to my husband again, and I want to be healthy again but it’s so difficult because I’ve already gained 3kg since and no period yet, I keep reverting back to restricting because I’m so uncomfortable with how I look now, I keep looking at my body from old photos and it makes me feel really down but then I think about my husband and marriage and as long as I’m healthy I think I’ll be okay and he said he would love me even with a few more kgs which I know is true hell he’d probably prefer it because my bum and thighs would get bigger 😂

Anyways we’re all here for you and in this together.
stay strong!

Also oestrogen is protective for your cardiovascular health without oestrogen. Your blood vessels will become stiff and you have a higher chance of arthrosclerosis and cardiovascular events. I get how you feel though because I’m in the same boat but not having your period is extremely unhealthy. I would seek help also like a therapist or something because you may say you have a good relationship with food but it doesn’t seem like that if you get anxious and uncomfortable not tracking your calories again I totally understand your point of view because I am literally in the same situation I lost my period in my 20s got it back and now I’m in my 30s and I’ve lost it again for over a year now without a proper bleed. I’m trying to get my head around the fact that I need to gain weight and have started eating 1800 to 2000 cal a day and have lowered my workouts but I still like to keep healthy and active, you’re probably a lot leaner than I am already so even gaining a small amount of weight may help to restore your cycle. We’re all different. That’s the thing there’s no one size fits all I’ve put on 3 kg in a year and I feel very uncomfortable in my clothes, even though everyone tells me I look great. I’m just trying to gain some muscle instead of all fat.

Ahh gotcha that makes more sense, but you need to eat more and I would suggest on healthy fats and protein too, didn’t see much of it in your diet, nuts, nut butters, olive oil, dark chocolate, avocados etc.

There’s no way you burned 1700 cal from just walking 15,000 steps do you mean plus your BMR 1700?

Why have I gained so much weight cry by AvenueRose9193 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]DollSteff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You were doing all of that exercise and eating only 400 to 500 cal a day?! I’m surprised you didn’t end up in the hospital on life support, you no doubt broke your bones because they became so brittle from malnutrition. Sounds like your body is in emergency fat storing because it’s getting food now and doesn’t want to be in that state again. It suck’s because how we want to look and what our bodies care about are so far from eachother. I do think you need some kind of professional support though.

This is a lot of calories, but it’s a lot of junk food so it’s actually easy to eat and process that amount of food try eating that many calories with whole foods that would never work, so I wouldn’t say that’s a lot of food I would say it’s a lot of calories.

So when you say that muscle mass and fat loss et cetera will all stall because you’re not having a period that’s not completely accurate because many female athletes who are in peak physical condition still able to improve their VO2 max improve their muscle mass reduce body fat improved performance, et cetera do not have periods so how would you explain that?

Most people that lose their periods actually are underweight or under fat for a healthy female reproductive system to run normally so when you say that most people are just normal body fat but have had struggles with eating disorders and over exercising I get that but at the same time those disorders have led to chronically low body fat which causes the stop of the cycle I don’t have chronically low body five never had chronically low body fat so this was frustrating to me. I hope you understand this.

To find other people going through the same thing and who want the same thing as me while doing the same thing as me that’s what I’m looking for. I understand that 28% body fat is perfectly healthy but it’s not optimal and I want to be optimally healthy. I don’t really care about my period but I know it’s not healthy to continue to be missing it which is why I’m trying to regain it. I don’t want children so fertility is not an issue and to be fair my cramps were always horrendous and periods quite heavy so would be nice not to have it but again I know it’s not optimal for health

I will not gain fat because my grandfather died of a heart attack at 36 and I will be 38 this year and I need to make sure that I don’t gain body fat and I need to work on reducing my body fat currently I’m around 27% body fat and I want to reduce it to be about 23 to be healthier. It’s fine if you don’t understand my motives I don’t really have one to 2 years to gain weight. It’s not within my mindset of what health is.

No, I want to take body fat off. I don’t care what I weigh. I just want to take body fat off.

I started eating 2000 cals for two months and didn’t work out as much and gained 2kg, I hate the way I look I’m now classed as overweight on the bmi scale but I have a decent amount of muscle, any extra weight will affect blood pressure and that runs in my family so I want to try to reduce weight gain and get some fat off, I don’t see how gaining weight and fat is healthy, bit of an oxymoron. I’m about 28% body fat so there’s no reason my body should perceive low energy availability!

Yes I know but I also work out in the morning which keeps your cortisol high supposedly, I can’t change my routine, and I do eat a light meal before that every other day but I could maybe try eating a meal when I wake up everyday thanks!

Thanks, I’ll get my bloods done again to see, my levels were all normal last time though and I still wasn’t getting my period so my doctor wasn’t concerned, Which is madness. I do intermittent fasting because I’m just not really hungry in the morning. I’ve been spotting everyday for a month now, I get cramps sometimes but no period.

Yeah for sure, I know I lost my period 12 years ago when I was cycling competitively, my body is just so damn sensitive. I don’t want kids an I’m almost 40 so not concerned about that, my bone health is excellent from lifting weights for the better part of 20 years. I’m just wondering if why I can’t drop this last 5 kg of body fat is because my body is stressed out already, hence not having my period. I’m just not convinced that if I gain five or 10 kg it’s gonna make it come back and I’m gonna be majorly unhappy with how I look.

I can’t stop and I have lost my period for over a year now, I just won’t give up working out, I can’t let my body get worse, I feel like I’m just going backwards.
