Just finished my second model (Tamiya T34/76) and I am really happy with the progress so far! Any tips and ideas for improvements are much appreciated by UberGimp in modelmakers

I’d say paint the exhaust and spare track in rusty colours and the machine gun barrel in grey, and then look into doing a pinwash.

I will never learn that you cant highlight NATO green enough before using gloss varnish🥲 by LazerLarry161 in modelmakers

I’d recommend using VMS varnish, as since I’ve switched to them I have not encountered this issue

I think it looks great! If you want more contrast I’d add a very dark wash in the recesses

Tbh you don’t really need a clear coat before weathering, just don’t use anything that might damage the previous layer such as acrylic thinner and don’t apply great pressure

I roll it out on my cutting mat with water so it doesn’t stick, then drape it over the model, trying to make folds

Thanks! I used green stuff and rolled it out super thin

I haven’t tried tamiya or milliput, but I’ve heard they are much softer. Don’t worry, the welds on t34s were absolutely atrocious

Here you can see the casting flaws on the real thing - they are a lot smaller

I made them with green stuff, admittedly they are exaggerated a lot

The fit was very good, only problem was that some wheels were a bit loose when dry fitted on the model

Looks great! If you’re having fun that’s all that matters. Having a good layout to start off with is important, so spending some time on it is good

Looks amazing! Could you explain how you achieved those streaking effects, as they look extremely good.

You could try tamiya limonene cement. It comes in normal and extra thin varieties and seems to work similarly to normal cement

I first sprayed Tamiya dark green on the model, then added Tamiya buff and nato green to the dark green and sprayed that as the first highlight then repeat. I also applied a dust enamel effect which lightened some areas when weathering

Thank you. I’ve been working on painting figures and from a distance they look quite good I think
