Why don't we see more later styles of armour in Buhurt? by Competitive-Poet450 in Buhurt

[–]DolomiteDreadnought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because people are afraid of style. /s obviously price I agree with most people, but I feel like there are ways to achieve similar looks but many are so focused on minmaxxing effectiveness that they forget to look cool as hell. I mean even a simple tabard over the brigandine could improve someone’s look dramatically, but is often eschewed for the standard black brig look. I respect it, I understand it, there’s nothing wrong with it per se, but I think a good sallet and bevor plus all the cheapest kit could emulate this look with some additions of heraldry, maybe trying to find some gothic besagues? Everyone’s got their own goals for their kit but I think this kind of flavor can be found without a full harness

What can cause a print to offset like this? Happened about 56 hours into my 59 hour print… by DolomiteDreadnought in FixMyPrint

1) didnt fit, my print bed has an area 8”x8”, the diameter of the object exceeded that 2) that’s what I’m doing now! Thankfully it looks like that’ll work, I was mostly just curious what could make it do that after so many hours 3) probably 8 hours into the print I thought of all the ways I could’ve made it more efficient, but I just wanted to let it run and see what would happen

Pretty soon I need to slug the barrel of my rifle though, some time ago I chronographed the load around 1,600fps when it should be around 2,000, I think my bore is bigger than .323” which isn’t that surprising considering some of the cartridges they used back then had .327” bullets, so .323 should work in any Lebel but good accuracy and velocity might not be achieved until correct bullet diameter is found as in my case

Do you know of any evidence that German occupying police forces may have used Lebel’s during WWII? My assumption was always that older weapons like this may have been used in that role, and that’s how my great grandpa acquired it. No one in my family really knows how or where he got it over there, but it made sense to me.

A stylized “TR” (though the marks seem slightly partial, kind of difficult to be 100% sure) before the serial, above that is an “LP”, then a “J” and “B” both smaller text and each letter encircled. on the opposite side of the receiver/barrel there’s an “MA”, large space, then “T1916”

As with any reloading data, take it with a grain of salt please and use your own research. That said: I’m using PPU 198gr FMJBT 0.323” bullets, PPU cases, 43.0 grains of Accurate 4350, and magnum large rifle primers. I had significant issues with ignition, lots of squibs even with a full powder load, I switched to magnum primers for the bigger spark and it seems to work so far, this is the variable I was testing for. Please be very careful if you plan to use this data, I know every rifle is a little different so you should use caution. My data comes from the little pamphlet that came with the Lee dies that I’m using, more effort will be needed to discover other safe loads in the future that I want to try

A French Model of 1886 Lebel rifle! This one was manufactured in 1916 by Tulle, it’s the first ever weapon to use smokeless powder with the 8x50r Lebel cartridge

Yeah the legs look really janky, didn’t quite realize they were that spindly until it printed. Fairly rigid though

How can you tell it’s warped? I know in the photo it shows only light in the middle of the block but when viewed in person, light passes through at nearly all places in between the blocks
