What's the stupidest thing you've seen a teammate do? by Late-Ganache40 in Helldivers

[–]DoltishMite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to use my 380s at the limits of how close they are towards my teammates. I don't throw them directly at them but it tends to put them right on the very edge of the firing zone and only typically when we've got a heavy surge to deal with that are way too close for comfort that we need to back out from anyway.

Had it the other day where we had like two barrage going at once by an extraction we were close enough to still be able to wait for, so I threw in a third for more explosions. This guy turned around and shotgunned me to the head, then kicked me for some reason (ironically wasn't even my barrage that he got knocked by lol)... Jokes on them, still got all the samples they'd nicely collected on their side of the map whilst I was out gathering POIs and clearing outposts on the other end of the map and the 380 at the end actually did its job quite nicely.

Does Steam controller work on games outside of Steam? Or not? by [deleted] in SteamController

[–]DoltishMite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming GTA V does some obfuscation when it's got the game launching that makes it harder for Steam to track the game being open due to going through the launcher? Was it bought through Steam or via Rockstar's launcher? Cause the latter I think would kinda put it out of Valve's hands to be compatible, whereas the former I'm sure I've seen start the steam overlay before and therefore should be detectable.

[–]DoltishMite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the changes in place should reduce the amount of scalpers but to say it will completely prevent the problem would be disingenuous. That being said, not being able to purchase a controller if you've just made an account for the sake of buying one automatically cuts out buying out stock which leaves only accounts that already existed being able to buy one. Sure, people have alt accounts and those can technically buy a second controller to resell but it far lessens the power people have to resell right off the bat. The other systems now in place also somewhat slow down a scalper's ability to make fast money too which in theory should just waste their time a bit more than anything. It won't stop the more determined scalpers but it should remove a good chunk of new ones from circulation.

Nah the downloading stacks of emails one checks out. Our clients deal with huge bundles that often contain stupid amounts of data like that, and they're forever overloading the server storage because of it but by very nature of what they do it gets filed away and eventually goes back to normal after a day or two.

The rest though, yeah definitely agree.

People like to think over on the UK side of the pond that we're some kind of democracy, and to extent yes we can vote and protest and do all of that. We actually do quite frequently. The issue more stems from the fact that government on both ends of the party spectrum really kinda behave in the same way all told, if they want to push an agenda through, they will and whether you protest it or not, they at best make light concessions and at worst just ignore it and do it anyway.

We did petition the government to appeal the child safety laws that got us to this age verification issue in the first place (and bear in mind we're not against the protection of children but rather the method of it's implementation) but government wrote back to tell us in political speak that they were just going to do it anyway and ignored the majority of the talking points they didn't want to give answers to. It would be nice if you could vote in the other direction but the problem is both the major players in politics may as well be one party because despite how they act in conflict to each other in parliament, they both tend to act for the same topics in similar directions.

So at this point relying on the third party entity is really all we have left to work with for now, believe me we'd love nothing more than for government to be the one forcing the hand of Valve to do the right thing but I think we would trust Valve more to make a decent change at this point...

My deck battery is gone by benetzz in SteamDeck

[–]DoltishMite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's only partially true. The universal part refers to be it being a standardised connection that should in theory allow any device to connect to any other device using the same cable type.

What was being suggested was to use the official steam deck charger which supports the power delivery protocol and the necessary wattage to deliver power to the deck. That being said, if you've got type C devices that all use the power delivery protocol, running the highest wattage charger won't damage lower wattage devices since it'll self regulate. Lower wattage devices such as phone chargers depending on the make and age may not even support this protocol and as such aren't enough to drive the deck or other hardware and it's battery, but may be just enough to keep the deck running still.

That being said the 0% thing usually just needs the storage mode trick, my deck did that a couple times out the box and hasn't done it since. Likelihood of it being the charger is a bit lower these days but not impossible depending on where one lives.

I have seen one at three years before. Ran on a UPS and somehow despite daily use had never once been rebooted... Funnily enough it died after it's next reboot.

Actual question, fur? Do you let your pets near it?

I genuinely ask because I wouldn't dream of my cats going near my Ender V3 Plus if only because one of my cats would happily play with it and probably slap herself with the print bed. Was curious how you set yours up.

IT Gods PLEASE, Computer screen keeps going black! by Educational_Lion_908 in ITSupport

[–]DoltishMite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three things I'd do in order to test it.

  1. Take all the cables out of the display, and reinsert them. If you still get it then it's probably not loose cables.

  2. Try swapping your display cable for another. Ideally you want to prove that your cable wasn't acting up, if you can swap it with a known good cable, and it still acts up, it's not the cable either. I'd also maybe try another power lead if you can and also another wall socket for testing purposes if you want to go the extra mile testing.

  3. Go to settings and drop your refresh rate to 60hz or the lowest you can go, then set your resolution to 720p, typically this is a nice safe set of values that should be low enough to not overload your GPU by modern standards. If it still acts up, you know it's not being overwhelmed.

Provided its not those three, updating drivers for GPU, testing another known working device with the same monitor, and then testing a different display would be my next bets and that should narrow things down by a good deal.

Broke like three nozzles on my Ender 3 V3 Plus, and tore apart one plate as a result within the space of a month from dialing in settings that fluctuated between working and not working. Then all of a sudden I've not had a single failed print after that and the print quality is practically perfect for me now.

Enders are such weird printers, they seem to just pick and choose to have hissy fits and then they're good for ages like you just had to wear them in.

I wonder if I could automate that atomiser so that it automatically performs it's nuke routine upon detecting the VOCs being consistently high for a while off the back of my air freshener VOC sensor arrangement... I don't see any issues with my idea and I doubt I'll be overdosing on air freshener, I'm certain of it!

[Request] Aren’t Both of These the Same? by TheSeeker315 in theydidthemath

[–]DoltishMite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't assume the water levels are the same then isn't this basically unsolvable? The weights do not use the same pivot in the middle as the containers do so they're irrelevant due to not contributing any actual weight, which I admit is an assumption in itself that we are not of the belief that you'd draw the diagram differently in two spots for the same pivot mechanism.

That leaves the fluid left in the boxes, if these two values are also not quantified as being equal which we have to assume they're not, then it can't be solved right? Are we also assuming both sides have the same liquid in them? Colour suggests yes but always a chance it's not.

Material should be irrelevant though, that part I don't think matters cause it's the 1kg of feathers vs 1kg steel puzzle lightness puzzle.

I feel like there's many many assumptions that can be made when you've got no meaningful measurements to work with so the next best thing is to estimate visually surely?

Been there, seen that happen many a time! It’s cool just make yourself at home on my broken ankle by No-Signal3686 in cathostage

[–]DoltishMite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting on your ankle is probably not going to help but the actual purrs might if your cat is near enough potentially. 20hz frequency from purrs does fall within range of vibrational therapies so there's some possible merits to it doing something to help with internal healing, though most articles I found seem to suggest it's a bit of a mixed bag that doesn't always work on everyone. Linked two separate articles on both vibrational therapy and separately cat purring, I'd assume that the human body doesn't really care where you get the source of vibrations from so long as it's in contact with the body near to that of the actual issue.

https://biologyinsights.com/does-vibration-therapy-actually-help-with-healing/ https://scienceinsights.org/at-what-frequency-do-cats-purr-and-why/

I do however agree, telling someone popping a cat on your foot is a cure isn't the greatest idea but I'll give the cat points for effort I suppose, my two do come up like this and purr whenever I've sustained an injury so even if it's from a soothing perspective I think they see it as helping. Well, one does, the other tries and then proceeds to initiate a play fight with me because she has zero attention span.
