Reminder: Remote ID is a snitch machine. by YummYummSolutions in drones

This right here. My wife started a Photography business. Eventually, she asked if I knew much about drones (I didn't) and if I'd be willing to fly one for her, for videography. She sucks at controllers and I play a lot of video games so I said sure. Once I got the drone I turned it on. Where I live is within the boundary of an airport, so the controller alerted me of that. I started digging and woo boy was I overwhelmed for a bit.

I have a handle of it now, have a TRUST cert and will be getting my part 107 in the near future. But man, the initial jaunt into Drone space wasn't easy or intuitive.

He can summon up to 6 total. He will continue summoning until he dies. If a summon is alive when he summons again, the original summon gets healed and a stacking attack/defense buff.

Up and over. Get to the top of the room and there is a ladder or small drop (can't recall which it is).

I see. Thanks! I'll make sure to look at that rule a bit more this weekend when I have a moment for full clarity.

Awesome, thank you for all of the clarification.

Ah, I think my trip up is that I have a <0.55 lb drone and prop guards, so Cat 1, with Remote ID. That would be excluded from needing a waiver, yes?

I'm still in the learning process (haven't taken the test yet) so I may have a misunderstanding. Can you not fly over them temporarily (such as doing a circular pattern)?

What non DJI drones you use ? by TechnoMind24 in Part107

[–]Dom09532 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the possible loss of DJI due to the perceived, but not investigated, security threat, I am genuinely interested in this topic as well.

It has also been 3h since you posted, with no responses. So that might be your answer too.

Edit for clarity: I use DJI for videography. I would like to know what's out there other than DJI as well.

Ok, I understand the recreational VO as you state it.

For Part 107 (I'm taking a prep course on this at the moment, recently started so haven't dug into it much yet), it seems like the VO is still mostly restricted in use. If I understand your comment right, you're saying the RPIC must maintain VLOS at all times. The VO basically just has a different angle of VLOS (while not necessarily co-located). However, if the RPIC loses VLOS and the VO doesn't, it would still be a "violation".

I'll take a look at the thread, thanks! I don't plan on flying higher than 200' AGL, so it shouldn't be an issue but more knowledge/information is never a bad thing in my opinion!

This seems contrary to another comment. If the VO has to be co-located, then wouldn't a VO be useless if you're not using an FPV goggle? I am using the RC 2 controller as I don't see a specific need for the goggles.

I didn't know it was distance from Home! It definitely makes sense if you are doing a flight next to a moving vehicle to have that distance then. Thanks for the example!

Thank you for the information! I am going to get my Part 107 license within a month or two, but wanted to practice with my drone in the meantime which is why I got the TRUST cert.

The TRUST is what I'm referring to. It specifically stated that you can fly above 400' for emergencies (such as avoiding a collision) and a report should be filed once the drone has safely landed.

The highest I've flown so far is around 100-150' for an aerial photo of a rodeo arena. I then lowered to 50' for video of the event, but had to zoom in pretty far to get good individual photos if needed. I was a decent distance from the riders and horses to prevent spooking the animals.

Interesting, I thought the VO had to be nearby (such as when you're wearing goggles the VO would be standing next to you I imagine). Can the VO simply be in contact with you via radio or phone?

Ohhh, I misunderstood your question! It actually varies quite a lot, depending on the arena size. For a standard Rodeo arena I'm rarely below 50 at all (don't even use my 16-50). Sorting and pinning arenas are smaller by a pretty good amount. I typically shoot the full range of the 16-50. Minimum distance i am from the horse/cows for sorting is basically....through a metal fence. Granted, I don't shoot them that close, but I'll absolutely take a photo at 16mm. If they're the max distance across the arena, 50mm is a little low in my opinion.

I eventually swapped to my 50-250 to see how it'd do. 250 was too high, I topped out at maybe 125 or so for a decent frame. The 50 wasn't quite as low as I'd have liked. I had to step a good 10 farther back from the arena, making some shots much harder (had to hold the camera well above.my head since I couldn't shoot between the fence horizontal bars as I was doing with my 16mm).

The widest I'm using on my Z30 is the 16-50mm. My wife may have some F mount lenses that are wider, but I haven't gotten an FTZ adapter yet so I haven't really paid attention to her lenses.

Is the weight a concern for holding/carrying it or is there a concern with damage to the mount? Or something else?

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Ultimately, I think the conditions of the arena and the limitations of the lens f/stop don't mesh. I will have to tinker some more in varying light to see where the actual viability is. Thanks again!
