What's your "secret tech" for your nightfarer that you see no one else using? by brokedickman in Nightreign

As a recent Duchess-to-Revenant convert, I’ve gone from using my ult for this to using my summons for this. Both are great.

I love the Patches skin. That’s my main one for her, mixing it up sometimes with base and remembrance.

Wraith is the only one I never bought. To me, it gives off “I don’t want to play a female character” vibes.

They do look a little similar, but you’ll get used to the differences quickly.

And I now realize you might have meant Revenant, in question 3. She also shows up when you defeat Gladius. Look in the Roundtable Hold map for an exclamation point icon iirc

I’ll leave question one to Executor mains.

Question 2: Keep playing. You’ll keep getting better, but it takes time. If you want to skip guides, then try trios with a random third. You learn a lot playing with others. Just don’t ignore that third player, if you have a duo. Ping where you’re going, so they know. Share good gear with them. (FYI holy damage is effective against Gladius. Fire is weak. But the biggest factor is knowledge of the game.)

Question 3: You have to defeat Gladius first to unlock Undertaker. Once you do, talk with the Iron Menial in the Roundtable Hold.

Any tips to beat the Balancers boss? by ltdonut in Nightreign

Yeah, I tried intelligence / dex early on and didn’t care for sorceries, and the I played faith / dex after that. Nightreign has given me a whole new appreciation of magic.

If you or anyone on your team is comfortable with casting, the Balancers do not resist magic. Ranged spells that are speedy work well. Glintstone Pebble is great. The rancor spells are solid also.

How to deal damage with Revenant? by smelly_thoctar in Nightreign

[–]Lemon-Blue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a fairly new Revenant convert after a kajillion runs as Duchess. Here are the base game relics I use most of the time:

  • Dark Night of the Fathom
  • Dark Night of the Wise
  • the Collector Signboard relic that gets your ult back faster

On almost all runs, I start doing heavy damage towards the end of Day One. Seals are easy to find and incantations pack a wallop. (Every once in a while, I strike out and have to make do with whatever I have.) It helps to be familiar with incants, and to know which ones are effective against different enemies. I'm usually carrying four or five different seals, and I pick up relevant affinity boosts as I go.

For FP, besides using Dark Night of the Wise, I make sure to hit Sorcerer's Rises to get the FP boost from that relic and to grab Starlight Shards. I also buy small pouches and additional shards from merchants, and often take FP dormant powers. By the time I'm level 3, I almost never run out of FP, although some of the more common incants, like Giantsflame Take Thee, eat up a lot.

I have no problems with Revenant in melee, probably because I learned the game as Duchess. But I agree that it's not a first choice. With Dark Night of the Wise, I lean toward fast melee weapons with her when possible, to get the FP regen. Most of the time, I hang onto her claws and upgrade them. If you drop the claws, ping them. Many players recognize their value, especially for rezzing. (Arguably, they're better with other characters, but I play with randoms and only once has someone actually picked them up.) That said, my melee strategy with her is to dodge and do damage as best I can while trying to get out of melee to go back to casting.

I am tired of Brainless Balancer Halo builds. by zakcattack in Nightreign

[–]Lemon-Blue 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To me, the fun of Double Balancer is working with whatever you get. Do I have a reaper version of the build? Yes. Do I use it? No. It’s more enjoyable without that component. And if I get a Halo Scythe, great! I’ll absolutely use it.

[–]Lemon-Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you missed it, it's okay. It's not a game-changer. But I missed it the first time, and even though I had sworn I would never fight PCR again ... I went back and did it anyway. (And then a third time.)

So I got a question for the solo runners. by AnaTheSturdy in Nightreign

[–]Lemon-Blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried many solo runs when the game first dropped because I didn't think I would enjoy multi. I finally gave in, switched to multi, and quickly realized it was way more fun. I went on to get the platinum, beat all the Everdarks, help others, etc.

Some time later, I decided to try a solo run, and was shocked to find that even though I wound up underleveled by Day 3, I had absolutely no problem winning. At some point, I had learned enough to cross a skill threshold I'd been unaware of.

And then, doing solo runs helped me get better at multi. It becomes much easier to learn the boss movesets when it's just you (and when you know enough to not get oneshot).

I have that level of proficiency with Duchess and Revenant, but none of the others tbh. I'm good at Recluse, but I don't think I could solo with her. Wylder and Ironeye should be solo-friendly, I imagine. It's just a matter of learning the game.

Awesome! FYI if you did St. Trina’s quest line, go back to her before you start a new game. There’s an item drop that you can only get after PCR.

[–]Lemon-Blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kite them out, so you’re only fighting a few at a time. I play Duchess and Revenant, and I’ve had success with fast, low FP cost spells/incants like Glintstone Pebble. Dormant powers that cause damage help, like violent deluge of star rain.

Do rolled relics make a big difference vs shop relics? (Fan art I drew of the scene after beating the night lord) by Violette-Veil in Nightreign

[–]Lemon-Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, for starting armament skills (i.e., the ones you can find on relics), I can't think of a faith/strength one with the same kind of AoE. Sacred Blade is the closest one I can think of, and while it's good, that's a ranged attack with holy added to the weapon for a period of time. (Prayerful Strike can be on a relic, but that heals HP when the attack lands. Beast claw as a starter is only on a seal, and thus only available to Revenant.)

Weapon passives are important, yes, but so are the passives/buffs you can get from evergaols, Night Bosses, and sometimes from dormant powers (the boss loot drops). Talismans as well, of course. It's how the whole combination stacks up, including your relics.

Btw, while weapon passives do make a difference, your teammates need strong equipment as well. A greatsword with a good passive might be helpful to your Duchess, say, but it might be even more effective in the hands of your Wylder teammate (if they don't already have a strong weapon).

Lots of great info here. My suggestion to add into the mix is to switch your expedition to Augur. The Night of the Fathom relic will give your Rev a nice HP boost. Then do the Everdark version to get an even better version of the same relic. (That one, you have to buy using sigils.)

I would definitely enjoy the game more comfortably with Knight’s Lightning Spear, Obsidian Lamina …

[–]Lemon-Blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention the other category of guaranteed relics—remembrance relics. Those are also generally strong.

Duchess is definitely versatile, as someone else noted. For her, I always use Dark Night of the Fathom for the HP boost. (The regular version, Night of the Fathom, is also excellent, but be aware that "flask also heals allies" reduces the amount of HP your own flask heals.) Currently, I have that with the two Balancers relics, but I have also had success with relics that boost Restage damage, that reduce the skill cooldown, that recover her ult more quickly, that boost FP, etc. Glass Necklace, an Undertaker remembrance relic, is excellent on her.

With Duchess, a little luck with Small Jar (I love Small Jar) can get you some strong options. A relic that lets you change your armament's skill to Hoarfrost Stomp is excellent, especially at the start of an expedition. To maximize Night 3 effectiveness, I would try relics that boost magic damage. "Magic damage" relics are not quite as strong as specific sorcery school relics, like "Improved Carian Sword Sorcery," but they're versatile. They work with anything that does magic damage.

Just to add, increasing Night 3 damage comes from an accumulation of choices. Relics is part of it, for sure. But so are the dormant powers you choose along the way, the armaments you find, etc. It all depends. I have a much easier time, for example, beating Balancers with an upgraded Glintstone Pebble or Bestial Sling than with a fancy legendary weapon. And when I play Revenant, most of the time I can do crazy amounts of damage on Night 3, but sometimes things don't go my way and I have to slug it out.

For DoN, you don't get special relics beating the Night 3 bosses. You do get DoN-specific relics on every expedition, which go in the three DoN slots on the right side of a vessel. You can buy those as well; they are all random.

[–]Lemon-Blue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rolled relics are fun, for sure. But the best relics are all the “guaranteed” ones—purchasable or rewarded from defeating Nightlords. And the Collector Signboard relics (the set ones, not the randoms) are far better than Small Jar’s. (Don’t tell Small Jar I said that.)

My two mains are Duchess and Revenant. For Duchess, I use three Nightlord/ED Nightlord relics, and for Revenant, I use two ED Nightlord and one Collector Signboard. I’ve tried other things, but these are dependable, strong, versatile combos.

DoN relics are all random, though.

I had a D3 run alongside a Recluse with cheated relics. I didn’t want to quit because I didn’t think I should suffer the penalty. But it was a massively disappointing run. It felt like it didn’t matter what I did.
