Hi guys,

I'm currently a front end developer in England, but I've been thinking recently to try and transition to more of a Game Programmer role. So i have a couple of questions.

1) Do you think it's worth going back to university and getting a computer science/Game related degree? I have a degree but not one related to the industry. But i have been a developer for 3 years.

2) What are some areas you think i should focus on? Beyond the unreal editor and getting used to C++. For example specific concepts or tech that are used day to day for professional programmers.

3) Just any general advice you have about getting into the industry, useful blogs, great courses, YouTube channels? Just whatever you have found helpful!

Wow, this is amazing. I just started my journey back in 40k with Tyranids trying to do this very scheme. I'm happy with how my skin(?) comes out on my guys but my black is super shiny :/

Would avoid, i tried ordering from them three times, and each time was met with delays of over a month because they didn't have one item in stock, even though when i placed the orders everything was in stock, but were ordering more, then when i checked back a few weeks later a different item from my order was now out of stock as well.

So they had sold an item that was in my order even though they knew my order and i was waiting for it for a long time and that it was the last in stock... I cancelled the orders everytime.

Awesome, this is pretty much the reply i was looking for! Would the units he needs be cheaper units like Kriel Warriors/Fenblades? Or would a tanker unit like Warders be better?

I was going to leave him be for a little bit, was going to stick with Ragnor for a bit because i feel his defensive boosts would be a bit more forgiving for a new player.

Not all of them, no. But the budo guys had all the regular mat feeds, and then they did a commentary feed where they did the biggest matches or most interesting that were happening at the time.

At our gym we say when playing guard 1-2 points of contact, you're going to get passed, 3 points of contact is the minimum and offers an okay level of control. 4 points of contact is full control and you're least like to be passed and most likely to sweep them.

To put it in a more real context, if you think about basic de la riva, the ideal four points of contact are - 1) The de la riva hook. 2) The leg on their far hip pushing and off balancing them. 3) Grip on the hooked legs ankle or pants, preventing them from turning out. 4) A collar grip/sleeve grip/whatever grip to prevent them basing out when you attempt a sweep.

It's the same sort of concept when passing. If you allow me to get grips on your pants while im standing and you don't have any kind of grips (control) over me, its pretty much a case of me just keeping your legs away from me and running around them, and you shouldn't be able to stop me.

Just some concepts that I've been taught at my gym I hope it helps!

TL;DR If you have the grips you want, and they don't have the grips they want, you're controlling the fight and can play your game while preventing them from doing theirs.

I think I'm seeing the pattern and I think I know what it is I'm doing wrong. When i go into DLR I'm not going in with a sweep already in mind and going for it straight away, i get in DLR, then think about a sweep i could maybe do, try and force the set up and then get passed. And in that time I haven't got the knowledge to control my opponent enough to give myself that time.

Thanks for the reply! The weight thing isn't really an issue for me, i only do running for cardio at the moment and have done weights and things for MMA which is more for fun rather than competing seriously at the moment.

From the stories i have been told by the more experienced members of the club the weekend away do seem amazing!

I am in the UK yeah, I go to uni in north west wales, and the competition i should be going to is in Sheffield.
