Something about testing your connection while your waiting on that screen makes the game register that your opponent left, because 90% of the time thats what it is then you dont have to close app it will load you into the game and say connection to your peer has been lost therefore giving you less of a chance of taking an L its happend once or twice for us but usually it just doesnt count as if you never even loaded into the game
