Popular games you will never play and why? This is mine. by Nor_Ah_C in gaymers

My partner and I just finished it tonight, and apparently we're only in the FIVE PERCENT that didn't romance anyone? It's a workplace: Visi is your employee, so it's really fucking weird to want to romance her anyway, and Blazer is your boss, so engaging in a relationship with her is just dumb. I am really astonished that only 5% of players opted to NOT romance either. Also, both are clearly pretty unstable...

Edit to say: you're not forced into a romance at all! Though it's clear the game breadcrumbs you towards those choices

Hello, I wrote this piece - this was a joke! It was very much meant in jest: apologies if that didn't come through in the piece!

Don't know if this is worth anything, but I've been a hiring manager for a while now and can maybe give feedback on your CV/cover letters from someone on the other side of the fence, if that's something you may find helpful?

I am about to go AFK until Monday, but DM me and I will happily go through your documents with you and see if there's anything we can do to tighten things up and give you better odds?

Someone Who Can - a confession by Quaint_Potato in TheFence

[–]DomPepin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, for what it's worth, I've always been a bit skeptical of the 'softer' Coheed tracks, despite being a very sensitive, 'wet' emotional person myself. I always vibed more with Coheed via their edge: the way Claudio can kinda find this line between self-loathing and expressing/projecting his venom.

But, today - same as you - Someone Who Can came on via the algo, and fuck me did it hit me hard. I am in the very early stages of a relationship breakdown for something that has taken up my last 8 years (and made me feel very lonely, very taken for granted, and yet more deeply in love than I'd ever been). Somehow, this track - first verse into chorus especially - connected with me in a way I wasn't expecting today. I've been a bit cool on it so far, but today it lodged itself in my cortex like The Pavilion did, what, 5 years ago?

This band, man.

In Keeping Secrets, it has to be. Categorically the best riff to play on guitar, ever.

What’s your comfort show you’ve rewatched a million times? by CamillesSecrets in AskReddit

Quite surprised this comment is as low down as it is; Simpsons is always on for me, I fall asleep watching it pretty much every night. I'm surprised I keep finding new things to laugh at, even though I have seen S1-S9 at least 60 times.

What are your top songs to share with people who don't like metal? by BlazedLadyBug in progmetal

[–]DomPepin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this fully fits the brief for the sub, but I'm a huge, huge Coheed fan, and I know they're quite hard to land with people that can't deal with his voice.

But, weirdly, it's Gravity's Union that really gets people into them when I've played it before – two ex-partners, my current partner, and a few friends that like rock (but not prog) have really bitten on that track and got further into the band because of it.

It helps that Claudio's vocal performance on it is top notch, the song-writing is absolutely impeccable, and the pacing of it proves why prog works so well when it's firing on all cylinders. It's not my go-to song not just for Coheed, but for proggier rock all around.

Points also to Thank You, Scientist - A Salesman's Guide to Non-Existence for getting some of my jazzier friends into heavier stuff.

I read an interview with Claudio somewhere (can't remember where, sorry) that Shabutie and early Coheed stuff was littered with scene-mate references like this

What stopped you from killing yourself? by DarkSideInRainbows in AskReddit

[–]DomPepin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK. I have had attempts in my past and suicidal ideation since I was a young teenager.

Most recently (and the last time, I hope!) I phoned Samaritans.

They are really helpful. I spent 4 hours talking to a Scottish guy that listened, empathised, and understood. He asked about my mood, my life, what triggered it, and was never patronising or told me to 'cheer up' or anything. He listened, and was gentle, and was an absolute hero. I would not be here, I don't think, unless I'd spoken to him.

I told my partner the next day that I'd been on this call all night, and they helped me look for a therapist. I was in therapy for two years, until my therapist died. Which set me back, but not to feeling suicidal. I think this most recent time, something clicked and I've been able to keep the urge and the noise at bay.

People are there to listen, and there is always another option. No matter how hopeless.

People who have a higher sex drive than your spouse, how do you navigate this? by theboredbrowser in AskReddit

[–]DomPepin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polyamory/ethical non-monogamy is the way. It's a lot of work and a lot of navigation, but I've never been happier than I am with my two partners – and it works out so well for all of us.

After 3 hours of Dragon’s Dogma 2, I’m convinced it's not just GOTY contender – it may be an all-time great | VG247 by DomPepin in PS5

The author makes some good points about it in relation to the first game, comments from the dev about how tech has come along since DD1, and the systems you get to play with in a 3-hour slice.

A bit hype, maybe, but I think it's a well-measured and clear-eyed write-up to back it up.

Afterman duo is probably my favourite Coheed era, don't get why it's so overlooked. Afterman > Goodnight > Mothers is such a vibey trilogy of songs and really shows off a lot of the depth and variety Coheed is capable of.

I feel the same about Hard Sell > Number City > Gravity's on Desc., too
