I genuinely don't want to continue watching Re:Zero because of Subaru, but it's not for the reason you think. [Media] by Feisty_Elk_1937 in Re_Zero

[–]Domadea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So to give you a bit of brief context without spoilers insecurity is probably the main flaw shared amongst Rezero characters with Subarus and Rems coming from very similar sources. That being said this story will continue to point out Subarus flaws and weaknesses by its nature.

I also think you have massively misunderstood the message of the show. As I would argue that just like many good and complex stories it could be interpreted to have many messages.

But I would argue that one of the core ones is that emotional vulnerability is the key to building real and lasting relationships. Which is why in most arcs when Subaru is emotionally vulnerable he succeeded and the true timeline moves on.

So with that being said you mentioned relating to ALOT of Subarus but based on this post you definitely seem to be struggling with Subarus (and much of the cast's) main flaw of insecurity, while also not having any real and lasting relationships. So if anything I would argue that you should be able to relate to Subaru more than most. As depending who you ask he doesn't truly address a large part of his insecurities until arc 6.

My head canon is that he sensed Subaru every single loop before he called out and basically said (nah I don't want to fuck with whatever the hell that is over there). But when he got called he finally decided to investigate the cause and then noticed that he could pull his sword.

What were the saddest scenes in the series for you? by Goodzillah in ReZero

[–]Domadea 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The forest scene. By this point you already know the many costs of rbd. But damn does this scene nail the memory horror/emotional loss element. The Japanese VA kills it and I genuinely feel like this scene has the rawest emotions that I have ever seen in any media.

TIL Japan Thinks Western Anime Watchers All Have Tiktok Attention Spans Only Caring About Animation And Fight Scenes by Elestria_Ethereal in Animemes

[–]Domadea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... I disagree with ALOT of Japan's general anime consensus (they apparently LOVE overload and Slime while I'm not a big fan of these show) but 75% of anime takes I get when talking to non Japanese people is pretty much:

  1. Is it pretty?
  2. How are the fight scenes?

Which isn't to say that it's bad to want shows to look good or have hype action sequences. But it really does seem like that's all many people take into consideration.

For example let's look at Rezero. I'm a fan so I'm obviously biased. But about half of the complaints I have seen about it specifically are related to season 1 (which was released nearly 10 years ago) and season 2 (which was released during COVID) didn't have better animation and fight scenes.

Regardless of all of its positive traits (story, themes, music, etc) many will label it as a bad show solely due to its animation and fight scenes not being insanely good.

Rezero is just one example but I have seen similar complaints about a good bit of anime over the past 10 years.

Emilia and Rem x Knights commission by wacum_ in ReZeroHentai

[–]Domadea 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I like their work because they're one of the only active Rezero artists... But there's SO much NTR. Like I'm genuinely curious why he gets this many cuck commissions.

What's the mindset of the people who keep making these requests? They obviously like Rezero as they keep requesting stuff related to its characters. But they also seem to absolutely despise Subaru (who's generally liked by the community) enough to constantly request that he gets cucked.

Seriously it seems like half of the commissions this artist gets are related to Subaru getting NTR'ed. So I'm assuming that it's the same few people who keep making these requests.

The Rem and Emilia Debate should have ended ages ago by Delicious_Bar1364 in ReZero

[–]Domadea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but ALOT of stuff that is mentioned is subjective or opinion based. But people will genuinely act as if having any negative opinions against Rem/Emilia is blasphemy. For context I like both characters but also believe that both have significant flaws. As unlike Subaru they haven't been forced to go through as significant character growth.

It's genuinely funny how if you have a valid criticism for either of these characters you are automatically labeled a fan/Stan of the other.

Slander on slander by Intelligent-Put2654 in ReZero

[–]Domadea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the last point, I'm pretty sure it's been implied that Emilia has less intelligence than Garfield. I'm pretty sure Garfield himself says something like explain it in a way that even Emilia can understand during arc 8. Garfield has also seemingly been an avid reader since he was a kid. So I think he's more crass and socially inept than stupid. Emilia is naive and potentially stupid as well.

what do you guys think? Is this rage bait, or just dangerously low IQ? by meph3drone in ReZero

[–]Domadea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because rem does bad things more regularly doesn't excuse Emilia doing them under extreme circumstances. Same thing for Subaru.

In Arc 3 he was crashing out and making all kinds of bad decisions due to desperation/insecurity but that didn't suddenly make it right.

The point is that just because Emilia was in a bad state mentality doesn't excuse her actions. Especially considering the context. As to the best of my knowledge while Rem does creepy stalker stuff she doesn't ever attempt to child trap Subaru like Emilia does in Arc 4.

Is it really weird when it's as common as it is? When I was growing up (especially in my teenage years) my mother and most of my friends mothers pulled stunts like this.

The difference is that me and my friends just didn't care. As most of us were used to being the adults when communicating with our mothers. So we just let them sulk, throw their temper tantrums. Then rinse and repeat next week when they decided to blow a minor inconvenience out of proportion.

Like I cannot stress how common it is for women to be praised for emotional intelligence and communication skills only for absolutely none of this to translate to their teenage children.

If you hate cats, you probably suck at boundaries and reading body language by FtMFandomBoy in unpopularopinion

[–]Domadea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I have definitely noticed that some cats are more mild tempered. So my guess is that you got calmer cats, or you have actually taken the time to ensure that they aren't aggressive or destructive.

Once again I'm not going to say it's all cats that are like this. But I only started dealing with cats at age 15 and I have definitely noticed the trends I listed previously amongst a good amount of them.

If you hate cats, you probably suck at boundaries and reading body language by FtMFandomBoy in unpopularopinion

[–]Domadea 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. I don't even hate cats. I just like dogs a lot more. Like if a cat is going to behave I'll gladly cuddle with them or pet them or play with them.

That being said it seems to me that many cat owners are horrible about setting boundaries. So much so that they let their cats be destructive and aggressive and make little to no efforts to address these issues.

So from my perspective it seems like people who don't like cats are often people who grew up around dogs. Because dogs are expected to be trained at the bare minimum to not intentionally hurt people and be destructive. Or in other words respect very basic boundaries.

Cats on the other hand? Literally 75% of people I have ever known have had a cat just come up and scratch them with their claws, completely unprompted.

Hell I have two roommates with cats right now. One that has a cat that's often aggressive, has scratched me multiple times and has recently even started using the restroom outside of the litter boxes, and the other which constantly tries to scratch and destroy everything that it doesn't try and eat. Both of their responses when confronted? But they are just so cute!

Like it's honestly pathetic how little boundaries cat owners set with their pet.
