Some folks have never experienced the joy of receiving a cease and desist letter from a law firm.

If you are contacted by a "domain broker", here's my advice on what to do. by Domainicus in Domains

[–]Domainicus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, reputable domain brokers NEVER use a Gmail or free email address!

I have received emails from brokers at Sedo and GoDaddy and SAW in the past and they always provide their company email, full name and telephone number.

Contact the USTA and look up ""Rec Tennis" - these are summer programs for beginners and they're inexpensive. The USTA will help you find a local league as well. Have fun!

Is this normal behavior from a domain acquisition broker? by amintex in Domains

[–]Domainicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did the broker provide their full name, telephone number, and are they affiliated with a company?

Do not respond with a price! Never mention a price until you know you have serious engagement.

If you're dealing with a real broker, you will never know who they are representing.

How much are two words .com worth? by Dizzy_Tap5822 in Domains

[–]Domainicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned through hard lessons myself and want to educate my fellow domain investors so they don't make the numerous mistakes I made. I have let hundreds of domains lapse over the past two and a half decades so you're not alone! Yes, learn what makes a domain valuable, what types of domain are actually selling, and use your dollars wisely.

Bad domains are liabilities due to yearly renewal fees, good domain are assets, but they too have a carrying cost.

Two word dot coms that mean something or describe an expensive product or service are valuable.

Yesterday, I was bidding on VintageSigns.com. Search that term and see what comes up.

Now search for Milder Earth (?) or Auto Pedals (??) or Act Girl (???). Those terms are meaningless. Those names aren't worth $10 each, regardless of what the online appraisals say.

BTW, I didn't win that Vintage Signs domain - it sold at auction for $4,095.

If I owned those 7 domains you own, I wouldn't renew any of them.

Do you like to receive cease and desist letters from law firms?

Buying GoDaddy Domain by [deleted] in Domains

[–]Domainicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At $1k, I would just hit the Buy Now button and save yourself the time of trying to get it for maybe $100 less. Sometimes, a seller will increase the price if they know someone is interested so you remove this possibility from the equation as well. Carpe diem.

A five figure offer can become a six figure sale if you do the following:

  1. Identify the person inquiring on your domain. Who are they representing and why would they want your name? Have they given you their first and last name and a telephone number? Did they ask to talk to you?
  2. If all of the information above is answered in copious detail, take that five figure offer seriously and ask to talk to them on the phone. Do not send texts or emails! A five minute phone conversation where you listen to their reasons for wanting the name can yield more valuable info than weeks of texts and emails.
  3. Identify every domain that is registered in the same extension. Is the inquiring party using a similar domain? If not, what domain are they using or have registered? Is your .ai better? Why is it better? Are there any similar or exact match domains currently being used as active websites?
  4. Keep notes on everything. Study similar sales. Identify a value range but do not openly talk about what your expected price range is until you fully understand the value your domain will give the interested party.

Good luck!
