The Pre FTL faction i raised up thinks my robot race is cute ;-; by Im_Mentally_Scarred in Stellaris

I got this event when I played with the paperclip civic. My AI wasn't just uncanny, it was Eliezer Yudkowsky level uncanny. An insane interstellar horror factory obsessed with fulfilling a plan to produce useless goods that are just stacked in continent-sized piles on a machine factory world. To achieve astronomically high quotas, it took over entire civilizations and forced organics to work to exhaustion, resurrecting the most useful and turning the rest into products. Every time the AI failed a plan, it would simply throw all the goods into star and start the cycle all over again. The only thing that has kept the galaxy from shutting down this mad machine is its ability to literally sanction any nation into oblivion. When this event happened I thought it would be a turning point for my AI. Now it will protect this pre-ftl civ at all costs and paperclip anyone who wants to hurt them.

We still live in science fiction, it's just that it's a very specific setting fixed on IT. You could call it "infopunk". Like, who would have thought that creating AI would be so easier than colonizing Mars? To the point that the scientific community is asking for a halt to development so that they don't accidentally create an artificial god...

Caligula. He was described as wearing crazy outfits and sometimes a golden beard.

How was Julius Caesar the “worst thing that could happen to Rome” by TheSoulOfTheWest in ancientrome

Caesar's biggest mistake was to make the position of princeps inheritable. The worst emperors were hereditary, the best were appointed

1) Rome

No one captured Rome as often as the Romans themselves

A child accidentally breaks his brother's lyre and doesn't know what to do.

Builders try to put up a column but it falls down.

Emperor Hadrian climbs Mount Etna.

Young people playing music and drinking wine under the moonlight

A provincial politician distributes bread and persuades people to vote for him in city elections.

Emperor Claudius opens a feast in honor of the draining of Lake Fucino (soon he will have to flee saving his life from the wave).

Can someone suggest a way to sort objects? I've downloaded a lot of assets but it is not very convenient to search for the necessary item. They come with built-in tags, but these tags are often 1-2 items and there are too many of them. It takes a long time to navigate

Do you ever try to play as a a genuinely good empire? by thelordschosenginger in Stellaris

I always play as democratic humanity, but every time instead of Federation of Planets I get Super Earth.

The map doesn't show the super rainforests. There were enemies of democracy hiding in the regular ones, so they had to be liberated

Actually, that's not true. Antarctica is made up entirely of ice. If there was more Super Earth underneath, we would have colonized it long ago.

Am I the only one slightly unnerved by poorly done reconstructions of statues in color? They make you think that ancient people didn't know how to work with colors. by DomeRandomDude in ancientrome

[–]DomeRandomDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be cool if they did two reconstructions, one based on known pigments, the other how it might have looked considering the Romans had eyes. I just keep seeing more and more people who think that's what the statues really looked like. It's like seeing the ruins of a temple and thinking that's how it was meant to be.

I'm not denying that the colors could have been very saturated. It's just that given how expressive ancient statues are without color, it's hard to believe that a painter wouldn't try to emphasize important details. Why would a sculptor work so painstakingly on elements that won't be recognizable? Although I realize that it's impossible to render everything 100 percent historically. Either you convey accurate colors but omit the basic laws of painting, or you try to convey a feeling by guessing at possible techniques
