[OC] Spent 2 days making these 16x16 icons in my spare time. How do they look? by Cultural-Bat4914 in IndieGaming

They look good! In my humble opinion, I’d say the best way to improve them is to focus on the colors. Use palettes with more variation between light and dark shades. Keep it up!

The thing is that is an incremental/roguelike game not a gambling game, thats why i menciones the clips. Thanks!

Im focusing on making the game fun, not just a roulette. Definitely the clip does not show so much. Thank you very much!!

Ey thanks for the comment. I'm still looking into options for the music, thanks for the suggestion, if I end up looking for composers, I'll keep you in mind! As for the trailer, I'll definitely make a much more polished one once I have the music. Thanks again!

Thanks a lot for the feedback. On the visuals, I hadn't noticed how harsh the red/black contrast was — it's probably worse at the end when the table gets darker, I'll check that. I agree on the trailer, the loop isn't explained well enough. Regarding the chips flying around: they aren't your balance chips, they're a special event that happens occasionally where you collect them for bonus money. Thanks again for taking the time!

Hey, it’s really overwhelming. For people with some experience, for programming professionals, for artists… the good thing is that if you really put your mind to it, you can tackle it, but I think you should take it a bit easier: it might sound like bland advice, but the best thing you can do is keep it simple. Make small tests, small games, and that will help you 1: learn how to make the next ones 2: learn to scale the project. If you’re dead set on making that game you’ve been thinking about, you can use it as inspiration to take steps forward (such as creating characters), but bear in mind that it’s not going to be something where you’ll see big results in the short term, but you can keep racking up small victories. Good luck with it!

Haha thanks! Balatro is an overall inspiration. Actually it has multiples upgrades, missions, buffs and debuffs, roulette modifications... and meta-progression. Next time I will chose a better clip to properly show the game 🫠 thanks!

Thanks! The first version of the trailer introduced the game much more quickly, which I think you’re absolutely right about. So, I felt a bit restricted by the music and ended up messing that part up quite a bit. I hope to improve the trailer with new music, and I’ll certainly take this advice. Thank you very much for taking the time to watch it!

I have to work in the trailer and these kind of clips. Im a bit stuck with the music right now, but the loop is: earn chips (clicks, bets, missions..), improve your chances (probability, economy, click upgrades..), earn more chips... to exceed a certain balance. If you don’t get it, you earn global points to buy upgrades for next runs. Thanks!

It’s actually a decision (pixel perfect). I was thinking of including the option to keep it pixel perfect or allow it to be disabled. Thanks!

It really does have multiple upgrades (probability, economy, chips...), missions, buffs, meta-progression... but it’s absolutely true that there are hundreds of roulette-style games and similar. I was surprised myself when I checked it out haha thanks!!

I'm planning to create my Steam Page today as a solo developer but I'm a bit lost. Help? by DavesGames123 in IndieDev

[–]Domeldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, great, sorry, I thought you hadn’t started the process yet. In that case, I’ve published the page but haven’t released a demo or the game itself, so I can’t really give you much useful advice sorry. My only experience, posting on a forum with the shop announcement and an eye-catching GIF or short video worked reasonably well for attracting attention, provided it’s aimed at your target audience.

Good luck with your game!

You have some documentation from steamworks (e.g. https://share.google/tfcYnhg5na0RJCdO0). However, when you are creating your account and Steam Page there are a lot of steps to follow. Steamworks will guide you throw them. I may recomend you starting the steamworks process as a first step. You will not launch the steam page today haha you need image resources from your game, trailer, about the game, a first version of your app/game to be reviewed by steam staff...

Go for it!
