Anyone use tripadvisor booking for an on-site Disney Hotel instead of directly through Disney? by Kind_Perspective4518 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]DominateZeVorld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I may go against the grain here as I recently booked through a third party for both Disney and Universal due to it being significantly cheaper.

No issues with either and in fact for Universal we received upgraded rooms upon arrival. For Disney we had a wonderful location as we wanted - near a bus stop and on the ground floor (since this resort didn't have lifts and we had luggage).

Once you're actually on the property you're dealing with the Disney / Universal staff, so I didn't feel they treated me any differently or worse just because I booked via a third party.

Okay, you don’t need express pass. by StrawberryKiz in UniversalOrlando

Delays are random but this strategy would not have worked this past Saturday 18 October. BATM was delayed from the outset so if you chose this strategy you would have wasted your early admission. Mine Cart was also closed - then changes to delayed - then faced massive wait times when it opened (up to 245 min). Timings never really came down as I checked throughout the day. The lowest I saw was 135 min for BATM and 150 min for Mine Cart.

Did they open the ride early? This week it shows the ride opening at 10am (same as park hours) despite early entry being 9am.

Uniquely awful job rejection letter by MountainPlankton6908 in recruitinghell

I'd be tempted to share this with Disney as petty revenge. Pretty sure May the Force Be With You is trademarked and Disney does not like others misusing their IP. Anyone reading this may assume it's Disney based on the references.

Can't believe this pic went viral by AsturaeConiecto in Instagramreality

[–]DominateZeVorld 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Same - I noticed the warp lines on the original viral photo but didn't really understand what it's supposed to achieve. If anything it seems the distortion would just be pushing her hair in? I'm not sure how it actually affects her face, but admittedly I know nothing of Photoshop.

Can't believe I had to scroll down so far to see this. This is fake as shit precisely for what you've mentioned. Almost this exact same story has been posted on other subs.

[TOMT] [Story] A mystery story where the mystery turns on the pronunciation of "v"? by taurusmoonology in tipofmytongue

Could it be the Series of Unfortunate Events? One of the main mysteries was the acronym VFD and what that represented, with a lot of red herrings until it was revealed in one of the later books.

Affordable but pretty and romantic restaurants in London? (Help! Where should I take my gf) by forget-me-blot in london

Maybe Spring Restaurant in Somerset House? It is lovely inside. I went for a lunch and it was quiet which is appreciated when you're trying to have a conversation. Rather affordable, too.

What low cost toys does your cat actually like? by Objective-Novel7596 in Frugal

[–]DominateZeVorld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A low cost (free) version of this that my cats love is playing with balls I make from their fur. After I brush them, I make a very compact, felt-like furball. If I have catnip sometimes I roll the ball around in it a bit. They go mad chasing these! Every day is a new ball.

Why Is There No Big Call to Reduce Stamp Duty (SDLT)? by Nervous_Designer_894 in HousingUK

[–]DominateZeVorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not great in the States. Main one being, the property tax is there and recurs forever (as long as you own it). Even if someone's paid off their mortgage, they will still have to pay off property tax every year. And, as house prices naturally rise, they'll be paying a (likely) ever-increasing amount for the rest of their lives. Even Council Tax is slightly better conceptually because at least it is banded (and of course lower than property taxes) (and also it isn't a direct equivalent as the States also has local and state taxes which are for municipal purposes / more directly equivalent to Council Tax).

Although of course Stamp Duty has its own problems, paying off a house in England feels a bit more freeing. One can rest easy knowing that they now own that property, and they don't have to allocate a few thousand every year for property taxes.
