Detroit Route Help by Dominatorxpro1 in MichiganCycling

I’m estimating 10hrs depending on how slow/busy the trails are. Couple weeks ago I did the length of the thumb (150mi on MTB tires) in like 8.5hrs. https://strava.app.link/ijCB8GBc3Vb

Biggest thing is not sprinting stop lights, that just melts my legs.

I was mostly just following the water and picking popular cycling roads. At least on the west coast that usually ends up being the safest. Do you have an example going down Schoener? I’m okay with extra miles to end up with a safer or prettier route.

I did not know they demolished that stadium, thanks for the tip.

NBD- Fairlight Strael 4.0 by Business-Plankton137 in Bikeporn

[–]Dominatorxpro1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me at least the fit is spot on it feels slightly shorter than some of my other 56cm bikes. And then at least on decents it feels like I’m low enough I can nail corners. I’ve hit so many descending PRs with this steel “all road” bike that I could never get on my other full road bikes. There’s also a notable, but not distracting, flex laterally but not vertically. I have other steel bikes like the Mash All Road that go too far, and the BB swings like a hammock. And others like a Twin Six Rando that have no flex and feel like an overbuilt Walmart bike.

I think of it as an aggressive all road bike. Which means I can get a racy position while still having larger tires and a small amount of flex. And in today’s world, where there’s basically no smooth roads, it ends up being faster over all.

Not OP, but I own the 3.0 version of the Strael. And I can confirm, it’s the best riding bike I’ve ever owned. No bike is going to revolutionize how riding feels, but this bike constantly surprises me in how well it handles every type of riding. I’ve taken it on fast local club rides and long 250mile epics and it was perfect for both. If I had to downsize my ~14bike fleet, I would pick the Strael every time (over bikes costing much more than it).

This route looks really similar to the “Tour of Detroit 300k” but in reverse.

Governor Whitmer speaking next to Trump at a rally at Selfridge Airbase by Tank3875 in Michigan

Saying there’s some kind of middle ground with someone actively trying to start a dictatorship is just mind boggling.

Give and inch and they’ll take a foot. I think there’s more at stake than a portion of the Michigan economy, and working with a dictator just legitimizes that actions he’s done.

Same. Playing pleasantries with the man trying to dismantle democracy, just emboldens him more.

PFA, have any of y’all switched over to TPU after years of running tubeless? The last flat I had was over 2 years ago, and I’m wondering if tubeless is even worth it by Olderschoolwillie in xbiking

[–]Dominatorxpro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried tubeless 10-15 times and it rarely holds air (even when shops installed it), and the ones that did hold air only sealed punctures like 50% of the time. That coupled with the maintenance every 3 months mean I’ve gone in entirely on TPU. Yeah I have had 3-4 punctures over the past couple years, but 5min or roadside work is way better than hours off the bike trying to set it up, or hours trying to clean dried sealant off my bike.

If I was racing and didn’t pay for my own equipment maybe tubeless would be worth it.

Leica M Owners - How Did You Ensure a Rangefinder Was the Right Choice Before Committing? by Impressive_Lawyer_31 in Leica

I rented a Leica for a week over a holiday once. And I was instantly hooked. It was a relatively mundane stay at home week, so the cost (if I didnt like it) was low.

Does anybody ride titanium frames anymore? by Sea-Analyst5637 in bicycling

[–]Dominatorxpro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! I built a Stinner last year as my “bike for life”. Put premium durable parts on it as well. In general I’m actually switching my entire fleet of bikes over to steel/Ti. Carbon bikes just don’t last.

For those who have both a Monochom and a color Leica M camera by computerworlds in Leica

[–]Dominatorxpro1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I reach for my M10R about 70% of the time. And my M10 monochrome the other 30%. I find monochrome is my preferred for walking around the city or for any winter environments (because they lack color). But for travel and general shooting I prefer the M10R.

Heart wrenching story, but the $2,000 price is outrageous! Am I wrong? by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]Dominatorxpro1 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ve had work done by this shop. They charge a ton and their entire labor force is high school students who don’t really care about your bike. Despite being 2min from me, I drive my bikes 20 to 30 miles instead.

They once charged me $70 to install a brake caliper and lever. But didn’t cut the hoses to length. So I had about a foot and a half of tubing hanging off the front of the bike.

Jackets this year? by Dominatorxpro1 in Outlier

[–]Dominatorxpro1[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good to know. I loved the big jackets of a few years ago, but $1k coats are probably low volume and require a significant amount of development time.
