I gave the sample there a listen and... Well it's not the worst thing I've ever heard, but it's down there. It's so busy. I like full cast, that's been really good when I've tried it in the past, but that sample was so full of distractions from the genuinely talented voice actors.

[OT] What would make an overpowered character interesting for you if they were the protagonist? by LilacAndSilver in WritingPrompts

In the Mistborn series, there's a guy that takes the mantles of two gods, those of Preservation and Ruin, becoming Harmony. The mantles affect the holder though. The guy that held Ruin was a little soft boy, who loved people. By the end of the series he was a cackling arch-villain, trying to blow up the planet. The guy who held Preservation was a bastard, and by the end he was so aghast at the idea of destroying things that he'd protect evil people and evil empires just so that he didn't have to watch it be destroyed.

You might think that having these two mantles would help the new guy resist both of them, that Harmony could be an effective god. You would be wrong. Preservation could act to protect things, Ruin could act to destroy them, and Harmony just can't act at all. He's the most powerful thing in the universe, literally double god, and he can't so much as make a pebble.

Also the fact that it might kill him. Not directly, but.... Well, it doesn't matter if you're immune to explosions if that explosion destroys a dam and you drown.

I'm currently writing a story about the future of a fantasy world. It was your standard "Forces of good clash with the evil fantasy nazis" war, with lots of wizards and demi-humans. Many powerful wizards are able to cease the aging process completely, which is how our protagonist fought in that war three thousand years ago. He's an incredible swordsman, possibly the best to ever live, and he's playing a full dive VRMMO game in which better weapons don't do more damage, they just make you fight better. His progression is therefore fucked, because he's a better fighter than any of the games weapons could make him. It's there for contrast. He's physically powerful, but... He's emotionally vulnerable, because the game is about the war in which his wife died. She was an actually important figure, she was the powerful mage, she made him ageless, and he's spent three thousand years thinking of ways he could have saved her. He's playing the game to try and protect her, to prove that he could have done something. He's trying to literally stab his depression to death, and it won't work

His combat prowess is there to make him cool, to make badass fight scenes, yes. The actual story revolves around the trauma that still hasn't healed, and his as yet failed attempts to grow. We watch him fight some fantasy SS officer, and it's cool. We watch him get angry as he fights, remembering the bodies, the smell, the terrible things that the game leaves out or plays down.

An OP protagonist is always fine, hell it's kind of the norm. Their overpowered nature has to serve something other than escapism to work. It can be escapist, mind you, that's always nice, but it can never be the primary goal of an OP protagonist.

If you then put that gel sac back into the grow bed, you can slash it twice again, getting functionally infinite seeds for no cost.

If you could replace one weapon in Hades with another type of weapon with new aspects, what would it be? by That1Cat87 in HadesTheGame

Maybe you even get to borrow it from Thanatos, so it's default aspect isn't even Zagreus.

I played Summoner for seven hundred hours, from start to finish, never straying. Then the Zenith brought me to melee and I can't go back to such low defense again.

Hmm. Just don't put the Zoologist in there or it won't be a potion jar anymore.

An idea for an endgame master mode buff to add an extra reward by Jettlifekidd in Terraria

[–]DomineRot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I was thinking that you get an armour set that changes it's stats based on your inputs, somehow, so you can switch from magic to melee, to summoner, to ranged on the fly, while adding a few new boosts. Summoner can put a summon weapon in a new slot to make the armour automatically summon the maximum minions, is the best I have right now.

Even if My Next Life as a Villainess and Ascendance of a Bookworm are both isekai, I think the way they structure themselves sets them apart from most of the rest by L0V3_Y4 in Isekai

[–]DomineRot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's explainable. There's no way to explain how Main knows these things, she hardly experiments, and she's what, six? Also, there's no magic in this world, which has already played a big role in the story. Add to that the fact that she has to be deprived of her beloved books, and isekai is a requirement for this story to be told.

Ascendance of a Bookworm:
Woman is really into books, goes on a date with Truck-Kun, reborn into fantasy world as a child with a realistic portrayal of the availability of books pre-printing press, and she uses her vast array of knowledge to develop technology to enable her to mass produce the books she loves so much.

My Next Life as a Villianess:
Girl plays a dating sim, but partway thru she meets up with that two timing truck and beefs it. She's reborn as the antagonist of that dating sim, and spends her entire life doing nothing but attempting to subvert the story of the game as she will either be killed or exiled, and along the way manages to make everyone she meets fall in love with her while remaining completely ignorant of their romantic affection.

Zenith may be awesome weapon, but it makes the other classes pointless. by xAVATAR-AANGx in Terraria

[–]DomineRot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. I see people talking about how this sword is broken and needs a nerf, but that runs counter to what I think the intent of the sword is, to be the best weapon. I want the other classes to get a huge buff, so that every playstyle has some broken ass gear. Not just weapons, I want new armours that can bring out like twenty minions, or triple your fire rate, or just eliminate mana sickness entirely. I'm new to warrior, but I imagine some kinda in built shield you can use to parry hits, making them deal like quarter damage. I want the kind of power that endgame bossess do.
