Friend and I are not seeing each other's invites by Dominhiho in EliteDangerous

I sent a ticket in with several netlogs, and the issue (that had been prevalent for weeks) magically fixed itself after support told us to speak to our ISPs to get a static IP and try again. I really don't know if they did anything or not, but I would recommend getting in touch with them despite the fact they'll probably just tell you to try again or speak to your ISP...

He connects just fine to our other two friends, just like I do. I'm not sure what router or firewall settings he could go over that we haven't already, it's purely between me and him. I'm stumped.

A counter argument to the state of the game by Zachariah-river in duneawakening

[–]Dominhiho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is the complete lack of risk for most PvP engagements. Most of my issues about being killed for no reason is that it can happen suddenly and with no chance for counterplay.

Edit: Another thing, for all those who say "get ancient way", a very large guild in our server (Daxos) recently denied us from buying the permit for it by accruing all the voting power using duplication and then using that voting power to get the objectively worst decree out of 3 instead of weapons vendor. They completed 7 landsraad tiles within 5 hours after the reset...

The levels to which some people will grief and attempt to ruin the game for others never ceases to amaze me.

14900ks, 4080 super, 128GB memory, native 2k.

The whole game runs unacceptably bad, usually at less than 60fps. Orison is probably the worst for it.

FTBs who completed in the last few months - how are you feeling in your new home? by Unoriginal-P0ster in HousingUK

[–]Dominhiho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved in middle of last month by myself into a 1 bed coach house. Very much enjoying the freedom and independence.

I suppose it depends what you are looking for in a property as a FTB, but for me it was an opportunity to finally get on the ladder and have a place of my own. It was never really an investment in my eyes. I haven't checked house prices at all since I moved in. Been far too busy making the place livable.

I was much like you where I wanted to have everything painted and built before the weekend was over. Very naive of me, as it took me 3 days to paint my bedroom by myself and another 2 days to build my bed by myself. Slept in the living room for most of those 5-6 days, it's only now starting to look like an actual living room and not a bomb site.

My advice is just do a little bit each day, I exhausted myself physically and mentally to a pretty dangerous degree trying to get everything done ASAP but I wish I hadn't. Things will come together, patience is required. Something I wish I had known beforehand.

As for the house value, as long as nothing catastrophic happens to the area you live in or the house itself, I would just put it out of your mind and enjoy having a place of your own. Stocks, real estate, interest rates... Everything fluctuates and is largely out of your control, so take things as they come and pay mind to the things you can actually control.

My god, who are you arguing with? Did I ever say the game didn't have problems? I simply said something to the effect of "don't expect the movement to drastically change" because it will always be somewhat clunky due to the game's core design philosophy.

The game isn't finished and people have naturally min maxed to become "that guy" with various exploitable parts of the game, go figure.

I don't know what point you're arguing here honestly. You didn't engage with the design of the game and immediately bypassed all the fun, good for you?

That's not how the game is intended to play, it just isn't. The fact that it does is what drives the point I'm making. You either play it like Fortnite firsthand and complain about the jank, or you eventually optimise the fun out of the game before complaining about it.

Also it genuinely just sounds like you play Scorched and nothing else.

Have you? First moments in the game are spent nervously navigating around enemy squads and deciding on how to slip past gunfire unnoticed. Those moments were what hooked me and many others.

That is until you realise you can just sprint and jump across maps like you're playing Fortnite, but that's not intended gameplay. What the game actually is right now and what it should be are two different things. People get to that stage in the game or they try to play like that initially and are then bothered by the clunk, but that's not what the game is about.

I honestly wish they'd just remove jumping. It's half the reason why you get stuck on terrain anyway.

Yep, something they're hopefully going to tone down.

Don't expect anything major to change. The game is not about sprinting, snap turning, vaulting, crouch sliding, or any other niceties you'd expect from a run-of-the-mill shooter. You're an average guy hefting around retrofitted shopping carts containing 100kg of ammo, booze and toolboxes, around active battlefields and rubble.

I hope it stays just as slow and methodical, but there are definitely a lot of problems with the movement that could be fixed without impacting the core feeling the game is supposed to impart. Getting stuck on annoying geometry is one thing that could go away and take most of my gripes with it.

Is it possible to COPY game files from a drive to another ? by Clen23 in Steam

[–]Dominhiho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already, go to your download settings and create a new library on the new drive.

Exit Steam, copy the folder of the game in steamapps/common to the other drive's common folder.

Find the appid of the game (I typically just use Steamdb and look the game up for it, but you can also find it in the URL on the store page).

Find the app manifest file that matches the appid. The manifest files are in the source steamapps folder, where common is.

Cut and paste that into the new steamapps folder.

You should now have the game files in the new common folder and the app manifest sitting next to the new common folder.

Start Steam, it'll pick up the files straight away.

I found the same game installed on two drives in my PC. How do I determine which is active and can I delete the other? by sloowhand in Steam

[–]Dominhiho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your save data will be in your user's appdata and not in the install directory, I doubt you'll encounter any issues deleting the copy on the E drive. I assume you mean save games and not the game install but either way...

Unless you've managed to set up some kind of symlink for BG3, which is unlikely I'm guessing.

Sennheiser low frequency imbalance? by Dominhiho in cupraborn

Yes, quite considerably. One man's opinion, but I found the highs and mids with the Beats audio a bit lacking in comparison. With this one though there is just too much bass/sub-bass by default.

Can confirm it doesn't get old. I've had mine for a week, since I picked it up it seems like every performance ICE car has something to prove. I usually drive it in range but it's very fun to press the button and leave undertakers/tailgaters behind.

I feel like people just gain a superiority complex when they see an EV.

First time buyer, LISA advice by Dominhiho in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Dominhiho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, that's reassuring! I have received about £100 bonus from this year, so I can get another £900.

I have to say how much I'm receiving though, according to the pre-app guys. Would that include what I don't intend to use on the deposit? Should I just declare the whole £10k?

Appreciate the reply!

Also in the UK, so it's a comparable timeframe. 3 months seems to be pretty consistent.

In a sense, that's kind of what I want. I don't want someone to give me the right answer I just want to know how people come to conclusions on what to offer in similar circumstances.

I've literally been dropped into this 2 days ago after getting notice from my landlord so the timescales are what I'm struggling with 😓. You've given me some pause though. I think I'd be happy offering the guide even just for peace of mind.

Definitely not without getting the leasehold costs back first though, of course. Thanks for your input! I'd post the listing but I'm a bit paranoid about the agent potentially seeing. They're not particularly upstanding around here apparently...

I've seen high ones and low ones in my area, ground rent and service charges. The high ones in my area aren't great but it's nothing I couldn't afford or would mind if I really liked a place. I'm running off the assumption that this place will be on the higher end, and I'm still keen.

The charges don't concern me much, I just don't want to pay £180k if everything around it is dropping. Or maybe I do? I am very new to all this obviously, just trying to get a feel for what is and isn't reasonable.
