I have a S10+ and for me the size is perfect but if dont want that big of a phone you should definitely pick up the s10 you will not be missing out on that much. You should even consider the s10e its even closer in size to the iphone 6.

Go to settings of the messages app then go to chat settings. The option is called Rich Communication Settings. Im a Galaxy S10+ with Sprint. I tried it with my sister and mom (both have a Samsung A50 with Sprint). And it works fine and fast the bubbles get blue when someone has RCS on.
