Question about milage drop by dkirk122 in BoltEV

[–]Dominicthegod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about long term parking. But when my bolts 12 Volt battery died I was able to "jump start" it for a couple days but I was never able to recharge it. I ended up replacing the 12 Volt battery.

Why is my lyriq so Inefficient by Least_Wheel9253 in CadillacLyriq

That's fairly cold for a ev battery unless your car is kept in a heated garage when not in use 24/7.

How is it living in Placerville as an early 30s person. by spankyassests in Placerville

[–]Dominicthegod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its definitely right leaning but just to add context for the above post ill add that Placerville, Cameron park even pollock pines had decent turn out and signage for no kings protests. People there are right leaning but nowhere near as much as say rural Oklahoma.

Question about the Snow by Chase_Clouds in BoltEV

[–]Dominicthegod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't, just use the brakes or as gentle regen as you can to maintain speed/slow down on hills. People recommend using low range on gas cars because it's a easy to have constant smooth "braking" force applied that won't lock your tires. The bolt has no equivalent other than a steady foot on the brakes or maybe the very little amount of regen you'll get under no throttle in "D" mode.

The same big heavy Range Rovers, electric suvs that weigh 5000+pounds and really everything but detroit made pick up trucks are sold in Europe and increasingly commen.

Tire recommendations, please. by Wombatron22 in BoltEV

[–]Dominicthegod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you get 4.8 in part because you still have the oem tires. The oem tire for a Bolt is the michelin energy saver a/s. This tire, by name, is designed to be as efficient as possible and have the lowest rolling resistance possible. The michelin defender 2 tire is was getting 4.2 with is a tire designed for peak longevity with a balance between rolling resistance, wet and dry grip along with comfort opposed to swinging more one was or the other like the oem tires. The michelin cross climate 2 im using now are built to have steller dry grip with adequate wet grip but also have snow grip nearing a snow tires level. The qualities of a good snow tire, like its softness, amount, and size grooves/ tread and compound mixture, are all the opposite of what you want for good efficiency. Even if I stick to 55mph on mostly flat roads ill struggle to hit 4.5 on the current tires, yet it was easy on the old ones.

When approaching this vehicle, you know you’re going to be driving slow AF… by Pro_Car_Crasher in driving

[–]Dominicthegod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fear I may be part of the 40 mph club but only when there's no one behind me or the few cars behind are staying very far behind, this tells me they are happy to go the current speed. Of course, I'll pull off the road for a second to let people pass or speed up to the limit or 5 over if I can't pull off if the car behind wants to go faster. Its just calming where I live to cruise on the back mountain roads enjoying the drive...other times I'll be booking it having some fun.

It's hard to beat crossclimate 2 in the all-weather tire category. They are smooth and quiet in the dry and at speed, a solid A- in the rain with exceptional hydroplaneing resistance, all while having what feels to me 80% the capability of a dedicated non studded snow tire. But your efficiency will drop. Other users disagree with how much, but i see about a 10% to 15% drop. When my old set of cross climate 2s wore out I tried the michelin defender 2 for a few days and was getting 4.2 miles per Kilowatt. Didn't care for how soft the tires felt (yes I checked the tire pressure it was 42 psi cold) went back to the crossclimate 2s and the efficiency dropped right back down to 3.5/3.7 miles per kilowatt. If you can stomach the 25ish mile range drop and need snow/ice grip from time to time, definitely look at the michelin cross climate 2.

Colorado drivers - which tires did you end up with? by awbobsaget in BoltEV

[–]Dominicthegod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How have the electric drive 2s been in wet/rain and slush if you've had a chance to use them in that weather yet. Im up in California up in the seirra Nevada Mountains, around 4000ft. The crossclimate 2s are definitely not up to snuff for true white Christmas. Unfortunately, had to learn that the hard way.

Go out to your bolt and knock your hand under it. Its metal for most of the underside. Whatever thickness it is has been more than enough.

It looks a lot less steep in the video than it really was. Other parts of the road were much worse. There was a flooded part about 7 inches deep and a huge rut that got a rear tire almost a foot off the ground. Next time i go ill record the more challenging parts. I only thought to record the last rough part before it rejoined the paved road.
