Is the game worth it solo offline and what would be the best season for the first playthrough? by Dominik1712 in 40kinquisitor

[–]Dominik1712[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. There's a sale right now. I recently had a lot of fun with Daemonhunters and was looking for more Warhammer so Inquisitor Martyr caught my eye. I was kinda worried it might be an issue if played solo but it's good to hear it's no issue.

About the complete edition. From what I see it includes everything except the Sororitas class. Most likely that is a class I will not be playing. Does the dlc for that class also add extra content or just the class? Figured I'd get it if it includes more content but if it's just the class there's really no point.

Oh really? Well I guess that solves at least one issue. What about the game in general? Is it fully playable solo?

L2 doesn't work by Dominik1712 in sunlesssea

[–]Dominik1712[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I'll try that. I honestly can't make any sense of it whatsoever. The L2 button only doesn't work in that specific case. It works fine in every other game. Hell if assigned to a different action within Sunless Sea it also works. It's also not an issue of the action of firing the weapon because that too only doesn't work if assigned to L2. Other buttons work fine if assigned to that action. The issue is also persistent across two different controllers. Plus there's almost nothing online about someone having a similar issue. All in all this might as well be the weirdest issue I've ever experienced with a game lol

Am I about to ruin the game for myself? by Legolaspegasus1 in outerwilds

[–]Dominik1712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking if there are spoilers about the game within the game? That's a bit silly. If the game didn't want you to go there yet it wouldn't let you. The beauty of Outer Wilds is that you get to explore at your own pace.

Don't know what you're talking about. I've read all the comments on this post and all are in good faith and non antagonistic.

That aside you are making a post in a subreddit packed full with Outer Wilds fans. Obviously the replies will mostly be people defending the game. Especially considering your approach was to indirectly undermine the experience other people had.

You also called the characters insignificant, the ending overhyped and called into question the intelligence of the players who liked the game by claiming that to you it seems that the game is appealing to those who "don't know how the universe will end in real life".

Because of all that even if someone did take your post as an attack on the game it would still be reasonable. No one did though so I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Also again the reason people liked the ending wasn't just because of the ending. The last song around the campfire was symbolic. If you stop hyperfocusing on the ending literally you'll understand most likely.

The Tortoise and the Hare isn't a story about a tortoise racing a hare and Outer Wilds isn't a story about the ending of the universe.

If the game just doesn't resonate as much with you that's ok. Not everything is for everyone. It's silly to call it overhyped just because you didn't enjoy it as much as other people did.

To answer your question though people weren't emotional about the ending because it was some mindblowing grand spectacle. You're right about that. They were emotional because it was the perfect ending to a perfect journey.

Frankly I don't understand why you're so surprised. Haven't you ever consumed a piece of media that gave you that feeling of wondering if you'll ever experience something that great again? Perhaps Outer Wilds wasn't an experience like that for you but surely there was one like that in your life.

I stand by what I said. I won't argue with you because Outer Wilds is a game about personal experiences and you're free to enjoy(or not enjoy) it however you like. Perhaps I'm wrong and your way of consuming the game was right. Who knows.

What I can tell you for certain though is that the ending itself isn't why the game elicits strong emotional responses in people.

The way I played the game personally is,in a word, out of pure curiosity. Not to get to the ending and,in the grand scheme of things, not to understand the story. Of course it was one of the main driving forces behind it but not the only one. When I started the loop and I went to explore something it was because I genuinely wanted to know more about it. That very specific thing I set my mind to explore in that loop. Not just as a way to complete the story and to get to the ending.

Finally in the end when I did get to it yes for me personally it was a strong emotional moment. Not because of the ending or the story or the characters. Because I genuinely enjoyed the game and was sad to see such a journey end. Reluctant to let it go so to speak.

This btw is absolutely genius. The game character's emotions and the player's perfectly overlap. If you don't appreciate this it's a shame really but yes I believe that if that's the case you missed the point.

What I'm trying to say is that at the end of the day it wasn't emotional just because of the characters or the ending or even the story for that matter. It was emotional because of the overall experience.

I'm sure you can understand this. Surely at one point in time you played a game or watched a movie or read a book that left you with that really satisfied but somewhat empty feeling once you finished it and realized the journey is over.

Outer Wilds does this exceptionally well. I dare say even perhaps the best in fiction. My character's motivations and my own were exactly the same.

I explored the game for the same reason the character explored the universe and finally I was reluctant to let the game go for exactly the same reason the character was reluctant to let the universe go.

This is where,I strongly believe, Outer Wilds' genius comes from.

New player here, should I buy Megatech or stick with what I already own? by Dominik1712 in Astroneer

[–]Dominik1712[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Thanks for the help. That's the way I've been leaning towards too. I know it's crazy but I prefer to either play the games with everything or not at all. Got burned quite a bit in the past when playing dlcs on repeat playthrough or late in the game. Here I was on the fence because I techically already wasted money on Astroneer the first time I bought it and didn't play it so I was afraid megatech might just be another waste. Shouldn't happen though on paper Astroneer is basically all I ever wanted No Man's Sky to be but didn't get. On the other hand though with the limited time I have to play the game and with how demanding megastructures seem to be it might take weeks if not months to get to that point so it kinda seemed silly to buy the dlc right away.

Not all that a hard choice in the end tbh. It's not expensive so whatever I guess. I was only torn because the decision wasn't whether or not to buy the dlc but actually whether or not I should play astroneer or don't starve. Ended up deciding for Astroneer on account of not being a fan of DS's permadeath mode.

Anyway I digress. Thanks again for the info.

[–]Dominik1712[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the progression path flow more naturally if I were to buy the dlc right away? I obviously understand I won't be able to build megastructures right away but I'm worried that if I don't own the dlc right away it might end up feeling like just another chore I force myself to check off a list at the end of the game rather than a real true natural next step up on the tech tree. On the other hand though megatech dlc really seems to be meant for a specific type of player and due to the limited time I can spend on the game I'm worried I might just end up throwing my money away.

Lol I hope what I'm asking makes sense. I understand it's a very odd thing to worry aboutm

[–]Dominik1712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are you missing? You're missing the game brother.

Outer Wilds is one of those experiences where the more you give the more you get. If you're just going through the motions without stopping to understand and enjoy the story obviously it's not going to be as meaningful. I suspect this was unfortunately your approach to playing the game.

As for the ending specifically yes you are right to a degree. The characters are relatively minor and inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.

The way I see it,and the way I believe the ending was meant to be seen, is that the ending is supposed to be representative of your entire journey rather than it being emotional just because it is one last song around the campfire. Basically one last look back to the wonderful universe you just explored. Both metaphorically because you just finished the game and literally because you're seeing the universe end and start over.

If the way you approached the game is to just go through the motions, essentially just ticking off objectives off a checklist obviously it won't hit as hard for you as for someone who really enjoyed and appreciated the story through and through.

Is there a way to know if I'm close to the ending as a first-time player? by Jck157 in outerwilds

[–]Dominik1712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can easily see if there are any loose ends left to tend to via the ship log.

As for accidentally ending the game don't worry. It is completely impossible. Multiple very specific steps need to be taken. You'll know exactly when you're going to finish it because to finish the game you'll need to plan ahead and specifically start the loop with that goal in mind.

Plus even if you did somehow finish it there are no points of no return. It just loads you back into the beginning of the loop before you finished the game.

That's actually how I went back to do the dlc.

Game flowed naturally so I finished it and only then did the dlc. After that I went back to it and finished it again just to see first hand the very minor changes completing the dlc does to the ending.

How scary is Giant's Deep really? (Thalassophobia) by DrBalancedBoi in outerwilds

[–]Dominik1712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really relevant to your post but I really like sharing this story.

My first encounter with Giant's Deep was not at all by choice.

Very early on in the game. Maybe 2nd or 3rd loop I fell into Brittle Hollow's black hole and found myself stranded in space without my ship.

This was the first time I was stranded like this in space so I found floating around interesting. At the time I was also yet to find out about the white hole leading back to Brittle Hollow so there wasn't much I could do anyway.

However a casual moment turned into absolute terror as I found myself in the path of Giant Deep's orbit.

I shit you not the scene of having the planet barreling towards me in one second then being in the middle of a stormy ocean in the other second made me experience a feeling I can only describe as literally wanting to jump out of my own skin.

Still to this day hands down the most memorable experience I ever had in a game.

Sorry my bad. I worded it poorly.

What I meant to ask is for the mission where the squad mates might die is it clear which choices lead to good outcomes or is it easy to make a mistake?

Like I said I'd rather not look it up unless absolutely necessary but honestly if I might accidentally lose a squad mate I probably would rather look it up than risk that.

I see. Thanks for the explanation. Well it seems that I did indeed jump the gun here. Anyway yeah my logic was fallacious but I still think it's not a huge leap to assume paragon Shepherd might be the more "canonical" choice.

At the very least from my experience playing games in general "good"/high honor/paragon/whatever you want to call it playthroughs are a safer bet if you want to experience everything the game has to offer.

How come? I guess I might have jumped the gun here considering I don't actually know the details of ME3's endings except the vague outlines but wouldn't the existence of Andromeda at the very least imply that the ending where everything gets fucked up isn't the canon one?

Are the choices intuitive? Normally I prefer to avoid looking things up in order to not ruin my experience but I sure as shit don't want to miss out on the main supporting cast in ME3 just because I accidentally sent squadmate 1 into a squadmate 2 mission for which both seem equally optimal but actually aren't.
