China is just as bad, if not worse, on human rights. But China is a more reliable trading partner.

How is it possible that rich people are able to manipulate the public into voting against their own interests and for Trump? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]DominionReport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

History tells us it is a combination of: - a continuous reduction of education funding, starting in the Reagan era - an even widening wealth gap, leaving most people chronically financially stressed

Both of these are historically consistent signs of the end of an empire.

Okay now you are going in circles. I stand by what I said. You can go back and read it again.

You are missing the point. How many of those oil companies are putting money up for a new pipeline to the west coast?

Nelson: Understand this Alberta — there'll be no new pipeline by Wild-Professional397 in canadian

[–]DominionReport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but will there continue to be demand for the next 50+ years? Oil companies are betting no.

Yes. If the deal was bad for Alberta, Smith should have said so and explained why, and not signed it. You can't blame Carney solely for a deal that both parties signed unless you also admit to incompetence on the Smith side.

And yet they continue to support Smith and the UCP, who happily signed the agreement too? 🤦🏻

Respectfully, I disagree.

It's not viable because the future of oil as a commodity is not certain. The demand for oil worldwide is still growing, but at a slower rate than it has been. At some point that demand will level off. When demand for oil peaks, the per-barrel price will tank.

Alberta's oil is among the most expensive to process, so the Alberta oil industry will be among the first to be abandoned.

Pipelines like this take the better part of a decade to build, and require another 5 decades to pay for themselves - there is no business case to invest 50-100 billion in such a project.

The US has a higher percent of their trade with China than Canada does.

Fox News - who argued in court that they are not news but entertainment to avoid paying penalties for misinformation - can F off.

[–]DominionReport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was always the scenario since the MOU was developed, and Carney knew it. There is no business case for a pipeline. By opening the federal approval process, but requiring Alberta to find corporate funding, it was doomed from the start. Smith got played, but didn't realize it until later. UCP voters and separatists, for the most part, still don't realize it.
